    Re: 1989 gte rebuild

Yeah I didn't have the centre to hand to look but i'm sure something can be done, if NASA can put man on the moon (or did they?) i'm sure it's possible to 'bodge' up a homemade poly engine mount!

This liquid poly but 1kg will be required you think?

For the best in fibreglass supplies look no further than MB Fibreglass. Here you'll find all you need from silicone moulding rubber to liquid plastics at great prices

I may well give this a go since I got the mount here in bits already,

Yeah 1kg will be plenty 500g was only just enough with a good bit of rubber in the mounts. I used gaffer tape to mask up the back ect of the mounts and pulled it off just as was touch dry so it would not bond to it only took 10mins or so from mixing it up and I only just mixed up enough for 1 mount at a time.

cant believe this is 2 pages back already !!

i cant claim to have spotted this, but just been pointed out that the tubes, or atleast the passenger side one, is gonna slice through the back of the silencer.

bit of a stumbling block tbh, unless we delete spare wheel well and go centre exit (ps ignore the circles and stuff, its the only underlfoor pic i could find)

          Re: 1989 gte rebuild

Not to worry this has been considered My back box is dead I have no idea why my car came with mild steel back box and stainless the rest? All janspeed though was never happy with the way the backbox sat or the tail pipe. It's either going to be a shorter universal fit back box made to fit or a motorcycle type can whichever I get or find. Or a custom made stainless box shape one out of sheet. As long as it can pass noise limit on tracks it's all good. I did mock up with a small piece of soil pipe, gaffer tape and a kitchen towel cardboard tube proper blue peter style!

This is why I put the brace's where they are, I would of liked to go to the top of the hub mounts, but problems with clearing the springs, dampers and everyting else made me think better. In all honesty If I was removing the spare wheel well I would of made up a watts linkage which would do a much better job and not introduce the very small amout of bump steer this will. I'm a bit reluctant to cut the shell on this one as it was so mint underneth probley one of the best I have seen hence why all my mods have been reversable on this one. The next one will be a different matter and not fwd

Just a few pics to show the clearence at full bump with about 20mm between the metal top hats so just past full bump.

            Drivers side 40mm

Round the wheel well, at worst 60mm

astra gte by ben a.k.a me, on Flickr

With the rotten janspeed backbox which is shorter than standard

astra gte by ben a.k.a me, on Flickr

            Good 50mm to exhaust.

astra gte by ben a.k.a me, on Flickr

Not the best to show the clearence but at least 50mm to any fuel pipes

I dont use the 'P' word, for fear of pain from the other half, too many over the years lol. Although some she does not mind like the homemade woodburner in the front room, GTE's however... I keep telling her she really should get another one lol!

This weekend managed to finish cleaning few parts ready for paint, I still cant face doing anymore wet sanding and polishing yet lol!
Really need to see if I can get my dad's lathe working and turn upo the delrin for the rear beam bushes.

Yeah all sprayed, with the help of a lot of little hooks to hang everything up.

I'd love to be able to do that likewise for spraying under my car rather than use a brush but then I come to my senses and tell myself when I get my own place with uber compressor and what not.

For me a compressor is a must to run air tools (I'm lazy). A big one at home and a little portable one if I'm out and about which I can run off my genny if needed, very handy at trackdays for checking the tyres and running a impact nut gun. It was case of waiting till they came up at the right price on ebayy.
