Re: [Holland] My Kadett GSi16v (turbo) restoration
Few years back, I took everything off the underside of the car. All the tectyl and sh*t. (did everything lying on my back.. pff) and put everything in a primer.
Today I was an hour in my friends paintshop, and started to check the underside. I rubbed everything with a scotchbrite and put places, wich where damaged or where the primer was off (because of welding the rollcage etc) in a washprimer.
When i'm back from Switserland next week, i'll update this topic with photo's from Hürlimann, and i will start with "adhesive"? to seal al the seams? etc. After that the bodyschutz will come..
Re: [Holland] My Kadett GSi16v (turbo) restoration
Hello, I'm back from Switzerland..
A friend of my, and I started the car sunday evening at 23:15, to drive to Switzerland for a revision of my F28 and we were back last night at 01:15, with no sleep.. hehe.
We made a lot of photo's, so i'll give a short impression of our little journey.
Driving with a lot of rain already in Germany.
When we were almost there, (a bit too early) we stopped on the way to the village, to take a look, and made some photo's of the surroundings over there. Very nice country..
F*cking huge houses over there in that village.
Then we arrived at 07:15 monday morning.
We could than drive around the house to park at the back of the workshop.
Herferswil 70 in Mettmenstetten, Schweiz
There was the wife waiting for us. Frau Hürlimann. She already made breakfast for us. Very friendly.
After breakfast was Herr (Walter) Hürlimann back from Zürich. We had a little talk, with Walter, unloaded the gearbox and put it on the workbench.
First the impression of his little, but very VERY expensive workshop and parts.
Somebody need a F28 gearbox? (these are only a few of all the gearboxes he had lying around. All the parts etc were in crates)
Or spare parts for the 4x4box?
Or maybe a brandnew F28, and F23 gearbox?
Allright, first my gearbox dirty and greasy
Opening it:
Than dismanteling an cleaning and checking:
This happens when the gearbox oil is never changed (like the dealers do... right, don't. they never change the gearbox oil..)
sludge at the oil channels and holes in one of the shafs.
cleaned
broken springs:
After cleaning and checking fitting everything back together..
Checking all the new synchro rings, if the space was within tolerance.
New sperr Diff from Quaife (F20 type)
He made it like the box of the south africa box years ago, with the extra bushing.
Me torquing the diff
The rebuilt:
I became a "new" housing. Already prepared by him on sunday.
rebuilding (and me checking one of the bearings.. pure curiosity )
Here the result, with the box back home..
This was the journey, and experience. I really like those folkes. incredibly friendly, and welcoming. Getting breakfast, hot meal at noon etc.
Walter himself, is 68!! years old, and his passion is really fixing gearboxes and 4x4 boxes. He wants to explain everything. Sometimes a bit hard to understand. I can talk German, but Switzerland is not quit Germany..
Last picture and my great thanks to Walter Hürlimann. (on the photo chatting with me, outside the picture, and making fun)
Re: [Holland] My Kadett GSi16v (turbo) restoration
That depends completely what's wrong with your gearbox. Mine was in a good condition. so, not much was changed. except the standard parts + quaife. it cost me 2000 euro's. But that is with a big discount he gave me.
Normal price is 3415 schwiss franks. Around 2500 Euro incl Quaife. (depends on the course of the money ofcourse, Schwitzerland is not EU.
Re: [Holland] My Kadett GSi16v (turbo) restoration
yes that is. Here too. But he's selling a quaife cheeper.
But be aware, the price is for a STANDARD overhaul. I know someone, wich had a few damaged gears inside, and he was 3500 euro's lighter. So always keep that in mind. And don't depent on a discount or something. If you get it, it is very nice of walter (or it has a reason), if you have to pay the complete price, it's normal.
It's also possible, that you go there, and stay the night for free. That is no problem there.
Re: [Holland] My Kadett GSi16v (turbo) restoration
thnx for the reply's
hahaha yes indeed, but i did everything in my own little garage. It's standing in the bodyshop now since a month or so.. But he has it way to busy, so still doing everything myselves.
