  • Early and late c20xe crank swap

What is the difference between early and late crank as far as fitting.

The seal on the oil pump?

    Is the cambelt pulley swappable?

Is the flywheel bolt number the same early to late... I do remember the 8v 2L had less bolts.

The main different is the overall weight and the round and square tooth belts... that's about as much as I remember.

What is the thoughts on using 20.3 or 19.3 wide bearings when using H beam rods. Wider is better giving more bearing area?

I know people have swapped them with fine results, and as far as I know the flywheel and pulleys and seals will all fit vice versa. The bearing width is afaik not a choice, but should just fit the crank...

      fitting is the same
oil pump seal runs on a removable thrust ring, which are the same anyways
      toothed sprocket is interchangeable
      flywheel same bolt pattern/no.
      15.8kg early, 17.5kg late
the early wide bearings were superseded with the narrow ones (well as standard anyway) bigger bearing means thrust from power stroke is spread over larger area, i guess ditto for centrifugal force at tdc of exhaust stroke, but maybe more parasitic drag if you were to analyse it closely ?

i think the heavier crank was part of the C20XE-LN (low noise) package, including the pot flywheel, extra block webbing, plastic cam belt idler, reprofiled cam belt

Cool thanks guys makes the choice a little easier knowing it will fit with the least amount of pain. Nothing worse then buying something that takes longer to fit because you have to mod it... my shed is already full of enough of that.

Oh and yeah was thinking the wider with such high compression might help take the pounding.

        cheers.
