    Hi All

Any idea on how to remove the clutch cable from 1.4 Starlight.
It doesn't look as easy as my MK2 Cavalier.

do you need a special tool to remove it from the pedal end?

    Thanks

    Re: clutch cable

From memory the spring hooks in and holds the little nipple in ... I think I took the bolt out and pulled the pedal away when I did mine but realised its possible to do without if you can filddle the nipple back in ....

Let me go find my diary entry of when I did my GTE ,,,,,,,

      Re: clutch cable

thanks _ any further help will be great as it looks a nightmare of a job.

even tried to look at it using a mirror but its not easy to see and don't really want to put it into a garage and pay stupid amounts for their labour costs!!!!!!

          Re: clutch cable

You can either remove the pivot (removing the spring pin first then undo the nut) .....

Then drop the pedal away and work easy .........

Or if you can get to it you can just prise away the pedal return spring that pops into the hole and holds the nipple in place, then the nipple will lift out .......

I've read postings where its like threading a needle in a coffin with mittens on trying to get the nipple aligned back into place when fitting the new cable

          IHTH

              Re: clutch cable

i think you were luck with yours laurie, the pivot has a habbit of fusing to the bolt through the middle !!

it is possible with the pedal in situe, but i agree its a laying on your back head in the footwells going absolutely stir crazy job. getting the cable out is easy bit, just lever the spring out of the hole on the clutch arm with a long tip flat blade. getting it back, have fun !

                Hi

Had a closer look at this today and think I will go with removing the pivot pin.
the head of my pivot pin has a strange head on it - do I need a special tool to remove it or just remove the nut and tap it out.

just remove the retaining spring pin then the nut and if your lucky it will just slide out ... Mine did (but from Darren's comment we can assume sometimes they can be seized).

                  Fingers crossed for ya!

                    Re: clutch cable

iirc the heater box end of the bolt is knurled and pushes into a hole in the pedal box ? the other end threaded and split pin'd like your picture

on my first gte the pedal had siezed to the bolt so when you clutched it was twisting the whole lot and randomly locking as the nut tightened (and chewing the pedal box bigger at the knurled end)
