  • C20XE Water Pump

Anyone know if the 2.0l 8v water pump fits the same as a 16V one? They certainly look very similar.

Other than the price difference... there just seems to be more stock of the 8V ones here for some reason.

Afaik they are different... There are very good aftermarket ones from EBC with metal impellor as well.

Love your work and mods on the car mate!!

        Re: C20XE Water Pump

Well I have a 8v block (20seh) and ecotec head (x20xev) ect with a eco pump, the diffference is in the drive pulley eg width for the belt and tooth shape.

So far I have found the Valeo and QH have plastic impellors (never used to) but a 'cheap' firstline brand one has metal, I dont know what brands you'd have over there though.

          Cam belt teeth profile?

First Line are cheap, for a reason. Not quite the same but my Mk4 got through a water pump in about 30k miles (no leaks but enough play for me to replace it). Also their drop links only seem to last about 10k, on my second set now.
They're good to get you on the road, or for an emergency, but I wouldn't use their stuff on a big money project.

Got a spare brandnew EBC here on the shelf, though won't sell for cheap since they are not in production any more... Would want at least €50 for it, which is probably over 100 aus. dollars.... and then the horrible shipping price halfway over the globe. You'd be better off getting one from a shop I guess...

Did see some 1.7 diesels and 1.8 engines also use the same pump...

              Re: C20XE Water Pump

Had a look at Some water pumps and despite they saying they where for a C20XE they certainly where either really a C20NE or just shit machining.

First indicator was the adjustment tag which was hooked over like a 8v one, then there was the backing plate which was definitely 8v one. I took a chance and took one home and bugger the pulley despite being the wider of the 2 they had... it was too tight on the cam belt still and the last straw it was 1mm undersize in the body so it felt sloppy in the block... this could have been just bad machining.

So I went to GM Holden and they had one in stock... he fetched it for me and it had a plastic impeller... ahhhhhhh!

So I gave up and cleaned the old one... fitted a new O ring and put it in the engine.
