Is the F28 (driver side) inner CV (one attached to the box) the same as the F20 inner box CV? As i checked today before fitting my equal length shaft and the drivers side inner CV on the box dosen't look like it has enough spline sockets for the equal length shaft end.

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
The driver side has 2 splined bits, the inner one is for the cv/shaft and the bigger outer would be to drive the transfer box. Have you put a 2wd conversion in there?Returned GTE to default settings : On axle stands

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
yes an F20 inner CV will slide into an F28 diff.
an F20 inner cv will not fit on the halfshaft of an equal length setup though, they are special, have a socket on both ends of the joint. large socket one side that fits over the half shaft, small socket the other side for the drive shaft to the road wheel.

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
Its ok ive f*cked up here, ive placed a F20 CV into the F28 diff-no 2wd plate etc visible on it (just pm'd kiran now about that) as it was sold as 2wd converted. I can see the drive shaft spline socket and the larger splined sockets for the transfer box like you say Ben. Can someone point me to where i can get a 2wd kit from and how to fit as im guessing the seller wont still have this hanging around.

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
this is an F28 without a 2WD conversion kit. the big hole would normally have the transfer box plugged into it. the splines you can see are not the splines that propel the drivers side wheel or cv joint, those splines are on the diff casing and provide permenant drive to the transfer box.
deeper inside (not pictured) are the normal diff splines that drive the drivers side wheel. in a 4x4 theres a layshaft through the transfer box passing drive to the drivers side wheel.

this is a 2WD conversion plate, it blocks up the big hole and access to the outter splines, and also mounts a normal CV drive shaft seal as used on the F20, and passenger side of the F28

into this conversion you can plug an ordinary long shaft as fitted to astra2, 3, cav, calibra etc. OR you can plug in the half shaft of an equal lenth setup

if you are using an equal lenth setup, the "inner CV" is completely unique, nothing compatible with a long 2WD setup, it has a splined socket on both sides where a normal CV has a splined socket one side, and a splined stub on the other.

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
i'm sure youve seen it, but ben posted an ebay link for the inner equal length CV joint
this CV is the same item that would plug onto the drivers side of the transfer box (to the layshaft i mentioned) on cav/calibra turbo 4x4. the layshaft through the transfer box is the same length as the halfshaft on an equal length driveshaft setup.

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
ive confused myself abit here.....................i thought that there would of been a cv attached where that blanking plate is fitted like on the passenger side. So the drive shaft enters the gear box directly, ok got ya! Sorry im still learning (as you can see!!)

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
aha, so it is 2WD converted. and yeah the solid halfshaft goes in the gearbox, the inner cv joint gets moved to the other side of the engine bracket. thats why its called equal length because the bit between the two CV joints is the same length on both sides of the car.
this picture is exactly how it goes together, as if you were sitting in the drivers seat looking at it

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
Is that the drivers side ? I think the 2wd conversion should have a bush that goes in to take up the space, between the outer gear and cv. Another point, I thought they all looked like the one in Darren's pics ??Originally posted by mark2 View Postthanks for that, this is what im faced with looking at that area on my f28.............

Re: Another cv question...F28 inner cv
It is the drivers side, the pic isn't rotated correctly though. So what's the plate in my pic then? i know there was afew companies doing the 2wd conversion kits awhile back, so im guessing the won't all look the identical.
