  • Pistons C20LET

    Hello guys.

I'm looking for some information on pistons, and have a couple of questions. I think my engineblock is already rebored to another size. I measured it roughly with a "slide caliper" (don't know if that is the correct translation) and it is around 86.5mm. I will measure it next week with a micrometer.
Now i think i need pistons for 87 bore.
But when I look for pistons, you can get them for example for 86.00, 86.25 and 87.00mm. Now, is that the size from the piston exactly, or is that the boresize, where the block has to get bored to?

And next question, wich pistons do you guys advise...? it has to withstand at least 400hp.
Mahle, Omega, Wiseco, Wössner, JE, LEH pistons etc...
I think the compression rate has to between 8 and 8.5:1. Don;t know for sure.

    thanks in advance,

    Kind regards, Roger

86mm is the bore size, exactly.

the pistons are just slightly undersized. for instance standard 20XE pistons are 85.97mm. if you see pistons for sale as 87mm, it means they are suitable for 87mm bore, not that they are 87mm in size (hope that makes sense)

used both mahle and omega and they are both great quality, i'm sure others will recommend ones they have used too.

    8:1 seems right

      Re: Pistons C20LET

that is perfect explanation. So the standaard piston from a 20XE has 0.03mm of clearance.
I think i have to search for some 87bore pistons.
found this side, but they don't have a lot of branches. Only mahle wiseco.

There is also an importer in the netherlands.
I'm planning to take the Pauter rods, but the piston make, is stil a big question mark...

if its roughley 86.5 then its prob had a rebore at some point and it would be worn dont you still have the pistons from that engine as they wil be size stamped on them

c/r depends on a few things like are you running on standard managment what sort of power do you want bla bla bla

but any where around 8.0:1 to 8.5:1 will be fine but that wil alter if you have thicker head gasket or the heads been skimmed

          Re: Pistons C20LET

I've emailed those guys from flatlander. They can also provide pistons (Wiseco) for 8.5:1. so that would be okay.
I've just looked at the pistons, and there was 86.44 stamped on. So it's has indeed the 86.50 bore.

My plan with the engine is to run aprox 450hp. But the engine has to be bulletproof. I don't want it to run on its teeth..

Will the Wiseco pistons be okay for this? Also because they don't have a coated pistonhemd.

          thanks,

          Roger
