  • Fault code 84.. c20let

Keep getting intermittent ecu light it comes on then goes off so i flashed the ecu and got code 84 Injector Valve 4 Low Voltage.......

so is it a case of checking the earths on the fuel rail and giving them a clean and seeing if the light comes on again....

...or does it mean that Injector 4 is on its way out.

    thanks.

yeah start with that, bit of switch cleaner on the injector plugs, check the loom for breaks (short circuit in 12v from fuel relay to ground)

Thanks for your reply Darren. ..

i had a look late last night 1st i disconnected the battery then removed the top hat cover and found 1 of the wires had come out of the ring terminal that was earthed off the fuel rail.. i fitted a new ring terminal and refit everything that i had removed then connected the battery started the car up for a bit then switched it off I didn't take the car for a drive but i did flash the ecu and no codes present... I will report back again once i have had a good drive.

update on the above.... code 84 sorted with new earth terminal and swapping injector to no3...... only to be greeted by code 83..... now ive shifted the injector to no2 and had another clean up and traced another broken earth terminal which has now been repaired and happy to say all is good no more ecu light/codes.. but it doesn't end there!! for peace of mind i removed rest of the injectors for a closer inspection and found no1 could do with changing or reconditioning.

        no1

this injector was originally no4 then went to no3 now in no2

Due to these being somewhere near 20yrs old i have decided to buy a new set of injectors for peace of mind.

another issue car started popping under load while boosting in 3rd 4th & 5th so for some quick help i rang Ryan he agreed on the new injectors and also suggested i look at the spark plugs so after whipping out the plugs and on inspection there is a bit of discoloring on the sides rest of the plugs color looks normal ,

last i decided to check the leads hey presto.............. this is no3

I had some new Bosch FR7DC plugs so fitted them these are alternatives to NGK BCR8ES which i have on order, HT leads changed over back to magnicore's very pleased to say car is running great now just waiting for the new injectors.
