  • Heater Blower stopped working!!!!!

I think this might be easy, but your input is always valuable.....

So the car has sat in the garage for a couple of weeks whilst I track and fix a few other issues....the heater was working ok before although it did squeal on full speed

Got the car out yesterday and went for a spin to find the heater blower has stopped, looked at the fuses to find (no.12) blown, so I replaced with another 20amp, switched on to try and although nothing happened with the blower this time the fuse became really hot and started to melt before popping....

Do you think the blower has seized?????

All ideas and thoughts are always appreciated

    Chris

Just a quick update: Pulled the motor out and as thought it had seized. Tried blowing out the old built up crud but it didn't want to budge....Anyway found a fairly local company to me called Colchester Rewinds, very helpful and took just 2 days to refurbish the whole unit for £40...
Works a treat now, even the old whine and whistle it used to have has now gone....
    Another job ticked off...what's next!!!!

Thanks for the input, the guide is a great help.

I do have a spar heater blower in my parts bin that I may use but I'm also considering getting this one repaired if possible. I have a company not far from me called Colchester Rewinds and they do this kind of thing day in day out, spoke to them this morning and the guy was quite helpful, his attitude was if its got a motor it can be repaired so I'm going to whip it out and see what they can do
I shall update if they are successful as it may help others....

They are about £80 and are non-GM see my champion thread details some minor mods to fit. The other thing that goes is simply the resistor on the motor I have a brand new one somewhere - take it you checked the fuse too ?

You can just about get your hand under the scuttle drain shield and give the fan 'blades' a wiggle. See if it's seized.

Same thing on my Astramax, suddenly decided NOT to work yesterday,
so had to resort to hot water bottles on the dash!

Is the blower easy to change, as I have a spare knocking around the
            workshop SOMEWHERE?

            Thanks

Piece of cake mate see here some images of it coming out & on next page - you might not be able to see as a non full member - scuttle trims out remove plastic cover & two bolt screws hold motor in.

Is the screeching not due to worn bearings?

Yes, she was parked up in my mothers' drive for 2yrs, ever since then setting
                  3 was "screeching"

Tackle it 2mor, fed up of GM Hot Water bottles!!!

                  Thanks for the replies.

                    Re: Heater Blower stopped working!!!!!

Bunged on the new blower, STILL nothing!

Did notice the scuttle drain plug was blocked, so this could be
the culprit for the dampness in the interior?

The blower I removed was well stuck, whereas the replacement
                    turns with ease.

                    Where do I look next?

                    Thanks chaps

                        Thanks dj,

I was checking the wrong fuse!!

Slotted in a new 20, switched on the ign....and away went the blower!

Thank you all for the helpful advice.

My van is now a hot water bottle free zone!!

Something I've noticed is the bottom of the windscreen has gone white, de-laminating?

Wonder whether a smear of Vaseline along the edge would repel water from getting in?

                          Suggestions please.

They just go like that with time - I don't think it will leak

                              Clouding is a common problem?

2 others Amax vans are intact, so whether moisture is causing de-lamination I don't know.

Anyone handy with a welder, osr wing bad?
