  • ECU Fault Code

Following on from someone elses thread i thought i would check my ECU for codes as instructed by www.topbuzz.co.uk only i dont need a paperclip as ally kindly wired me a switch in the car that can flash the codes out.. top man!

I am getting the code: 19 RPM signal (crankshaft sensor) Incorrect signal

IS this just something to do with the fact that my rev counter is reading incorrect or something else?

    Re: ECU Fault Code

error 19 is described as a brief interruption of engine speed signals, at engine speeds greater than 2000rpm.

i.e an interuption of the crank sensor signal, which could be wiring, poor shielding, or the sensor is defective. i've heard of poor crank signal from rf interference from other electrical stuff too.

the rev counter is a product of the crank sensor and engine ecu. so the rev counter wont be causing it

Would it be causing a problem?

Well it if fails it will leave you stranded so Id check the wiring for any breaks or poor connections.

Right lads, took the crank sensor off and cleaned it, cleared the fault code and now i am getting code "93 Hall Effect Switch"

HUH? I didn't know the X30XE had one, if so where the fluff is it?

              What does that mean then?

Vauxhall say its still a faulty Crank Sensor, so i have just ordered one I'll see what that does!

i dont know where the cam sensor is on a V6. on early XE its on the side of the distributor, on late XE its in place of the distributor in the blanking plate, on ecotec its buried in the cam cover at the cam belt end, down the spark plug gulley

That sounds close enough to what Haynes manual was trying to tell me when i had a quick skin through last night! Taking the intake pleneum off will probably show it to me.

But first i am going to change the crank sensor (which i should have today) as vauxhall say its the crank sensor thats still playing up. Apparently "its a common fault on the X30XE and when the crank sensor is shagged, the cam sensor takes its place." How he works that out is beyond me but if you cant take something Vauxhall say about a Vauxhall engine for gospel, who can you trust?

Did you do the first paperclip test with the engine running or stopped?

It will show 19 (iirc) if the engine isn't running.

                      Ian.

                        Ian.
Alistar wired me in a switch in the dash to flash them out. Which brings me onto my next point! Yes it was running when it was showing 19.

But yesterday while i was waiting for the mrs. to finish work i was bored and flashed the fault codes up again and they have changed??????

31 when not running (which is crank sensor again, which i think you mean Ian) & 13 when it is running oxygen sensor or something?

The original code 19 is no where to be seen, neither is 93! WTF is my ECU trying to tell me? This crank sensor i have ordered is gonna be pointless isn't it!

EDIT: Just to add to the confusion i've just gone out to move my car on the works car park and thought i would check the codes again....... there are no no errors reporting! HELP!!!!
