Not a lot rot wise fazes me, but that was some repair work you had on your hands there ...

I bought 20 Silverline 1mm cutting disks two weeks ago and I'm having the same issues ... the last lot "Blue Spot" were fine.
    Thanks for the comment

I just bought 15 of those and won't buy them again

I normally get mine from Screwfix (Erbaur) @ just under a pound each (96p) and they last well and only had one break when I sat on the grinder but I thought I'd get these ones as I had an order in with Metals4u and and they were .68p ... false economy obviously!

    You live and learn ...

      Some fantastic work again!

I tend to stick to Klingspor or Rhodius cutting disc's they normally only cost another 20p per disc, but last much longer and dont fly apart.

Tilgear do the Rhodius http://www.tilgear.info/, but I tend to go to my local welding suppliers and buy in bulk.

awesome work L. good to see you charging on, hopefully use a bit of the enthusiasm vicariously

this is gonna sound odd but those castellated bits of steel are on the road side on mine ? (what you call dragons teeth)

wonder if yours had a patch or floor pan repair section applied from the roadside over the top of them in a previous life ?

Thanks Darren, and DOH! indeed I had a patch there and therefore my teeth were on the outside originally (basically for me it just adds a bit of strength to that lip and ties it into the upper (& lower) patch I applied ahead of them, but as it meets the single skin floor around there it has little more than mental comfort factor thinking about it )

Thanks again ..... Good thing I enjoy fabrication or this would indeed be one heading towards the crusher .... Sometimes though I wonder if I enjoy it too much and weld more than I need to just for the love of it ...... lol ... Probably in my blood as my late dad started working life as a welder in the ship yard and went on to become an engineer, he could fix anything (and I mean anything).

            L.

Oh and to add it here ... Just finished my first bottle of Argon/Co2 (Adams hobby Gas) started my spare last night. Though I did do some welding on the trailer and the wheel-barrow before starting on this car ... so all in all not bad I think ... Probably have to change the wire soon I have 2 x 5kg spools of .6 (though that was last changed part way through the MGB refurb so probably only about 2kg used on this car so far ???

            Laurie.

yeah definately no problem doing it like you have, i just ask question out of fear normally lol. think you might have answered it already, but the dragons teeth layer of steel where does the other end go? is it just another layer under the U clamp, or does it travel right up and meet something else?

The dragons teeth (I believe) is the subsection of the subframe to lower bulkhead/floor, basically there are three sections (that make up that area)

                      1) the subframe {space frame with the big holes and support for inner wishbone mount}
                      2) a skin that goes over (or is part of) the subframe has the big drain hole and just wraps up onto the chassis just a small bit just behind and "in a bit" of the wheel arch
                      3) the floor/body skin that is basically the floor

I'm sure the dragons teeth are item 2 and shaped like that to provide spot weld and locators (for anyone else reading, the dragons teeth are in reality 1/2 round holes along the edge of the plate and it was just easy for me to cut triangles ...lol).

Its a bummer but the parts diagram does not show that section in isolation (well not as far as I can find) ....

But I think you can just see it tailing off at the bottom of 28 on this diagram

No stealing necessary help yourself to any ideas ..... Her-in-doors said "was I" or if not "I should" write a book on rust recovery of the Astra MK2 ... lol ... maybe I must pay her more attention as that was either a hint or more likely a dig (especially after she has asked me 6 times to put the kettle on and I've still not lifted my head from the laptop) lol

That was a typically feminine sarcastic hint. Call her out on it by writing said book. Helps the rest of the MK2 world. We will be appreciative, you will be respected and you will either get a pat on the back from your wife or the cold shoulder depending on what she meant, therefore answering your question.
