  • Running bike carbs on a C20XE

Just wondered if anyone on here is running a bike carb set up.
I'm sick to the back teeth of the shit wiring job on my car, wires seem to be shorting out on the strangest things. I also do fancy hearing the bark of a set carbs again.
I was hoping someone on here may have some unbiased advice on kits, or equipment that they used to do the conversion. I'm fairly sure I'll have to change, fully from dis pack to an actual distributor which will mean changing a cam, right?
Any advice or views will be welcome on the matter.

Somthing ive alway fancied doing myself to, to my stript out the hell drag strip cavalier. Won the last round of the year at yorkraceway with standard set up and powercap, but im running out of ways to lighten my cav so i need to look into more power but want to stay in "C class" which is upto 2000cc N/A.
So will be following this thread to lol for a few pointers

Buffkane, you live really close to Boggbros. Why don't you pop and see them. They have a decent reputation for making the manifolds for this conversion, and have been setting up carbs longer than I've been alive. I'm guessing they'd be able to give you some good pointers, or possibly just try and sell you some shiny bits.

So I've managed to find an article that was in total vauxhall quite a while ago. It is really informative and obviously backed up by good solid experience on items such as basic set up and the stripping and rebuilding of the Yamaha R1 carbs.

I'd still love to here off anyone who knows of anyone who has done this installation.

Its an easy conversion, as you said earlier you'll need a dizy exh cam, then you can use an early carb model cavalier 1.6 distributor and loom. Then its a case of finding some carb's, fuel pump, modified manifold and away you go.

I got half way through the conversion before ditching the idea and going turbo'd but the lad who bought them off me ran them on his belmont and think he got 185bhp with the setup.

Throttle bodies are better due to mapping and not needing to be set up every few thousand miles but way more expensive in the first case.

              Thanks for replying John W

I've done quite a bit more reading up now, (got a week off work, so keeping myself occupied). You have managed to answer my main puzzle which was about what type of distributor and loom to use. There is plenty info out there on the carb side of things now I've properly looked, but is severely lacking on the distributer / loom.
I think I'm going to go the R1 route because it seems well documented and a tried and trusted method, probably use the bike pump if i can get hold of one, cos it is an interrupter type anyway.
