  • Oldest Mk2?

Hi folk. I know i have been on in a while, I have sold my mk2 Astra on now & probaly swapped 3 times since.
The question i have is, who has the oldest Mk2 Astra (standard or GTE) on here, as i have recently stumbled upon a mk2 Astra, thats older than my mk1 celebrity.:confusion:

    Re: Oldest Mk2?

At present, I would guess it's Exclusivemark with his 1.3 L automatic, which was registered in March 1985 I believe. It's very original and very nice

I'm not aware of a 1984 example here - one must exist somewhere, surely - though I did find a rally car on Ebay the other day which was apparently registered in 1983, this must surely be the oldest one in existence.

This is the one i have stumbled on but there's also a Gte that used to exist, alas its not been seen for a while, the two of these were september 1983 reg I also believe they were both rally cars too. I was quite shocked to see such an early one, well older than my aug 84 mk1.

As I said on the other thread, looking at the registration numbers of some of the rally cars, they appear to have the same local codes as some of the cars featured in Vauxhall brochures and magazine test cars. It looks like some of the pilot-built cars used for testing and evaluating the design were later converted into rally/race cars, as they couldn't be sold. They still aren't permitted to be sold so nowadays I think the test mules are just scrapped and crushed, which seems a waste, but never mind.

I didn't spot the other thread, so apologies for a re-post. Tm was a luton based reg, so used by Hq quite alot at the time. The e-bay one appears to have sold, really don't know what happened to the GTE though..
Heres the Gte, pic courtesy of another Mk1 fan.

            Re: Oldest Mk2?

Now there is a man who knows his Astra history and you are spot on with what you have said so far most of what you have said i uncovered while researching the history of my pre production mk1 astra gte and i also uncovered some of the mk2 astra history while doing this, most pre production Vauxhalls of the 1983 era carry a TM number plate which is the area code for Luton as did the recent 1983 ebay rally car and so does my mk1 astra gte

The thing that made me look into it was seeing a very early Nova brochure where Derek Bell was thrashing a standard red SR (with headlamp washers) round Thruxton circuit. In another (later) one was a photo of Harry Hockley rallying a stickered up Nova (without the headlamp washers but with holes for them where they'd been removed) through a forest stage. The reg numbers were the same, ending in LTM. I found several other Vauxhalls with the same pattern...

              Awesome photo BTW!

Pigeonrat, nice to know that you know a fair bit of the history of these, a rare car to be found the e-bay one & i hope we'll see it out at a gig/show sometime. As would it be to see v33tra's, when he gets a minute. Lol!

Thats a smart motor & a proper sleeper, just like it should be.
In the pic of mine, they're both standard, so not even the same power in the two engines combined. Lol.
