Re: The astra you never heard of....
Just to add to the thread, yes the GMx was an upgraded Merit, had the Merit seats, mechanically just the 1.3 4 speed box, did have tinted glass with top tint screen, plus all the other bits listed, when i had mine my Dad had a D reg Merit and to be fair the GMx looked a lot more car, i bought mine in Aug 89 so around 3 years old

Yes good old Polar white you cant beat it ! Yes please do post any more pictures you come across we would love to see them as this car was a real rarity because like you say there was no net so any info is very scarce. Thanks again.

Re: The astra you never heard of....
Looking at the advert it appears to have had its number on the tailgate too. Do you recall what number it was out of interest?
Maurice - wing-mount aerial was standard here from the get-go (manual or electric), the side repeaters were fitted from approx Nov '85 onwards in response to legislation I believe. Tends to be that really early cars with the narrow tailgate handle don't have them...

Re: The astra you never heard of....
As said side repeaters were legal requirement from around March 86 so most cars produced from late 85 would have them, I think the boot had been painted on mine so the number was never there, I asked the local dealer who had absolutely no idea, I think the certificate was the only way to know, being 17 when I bought this I had no idea about cars other than how to clean them, I wonder if any of the participating dealers are still around, don't know if you get the owner history from dvla the number would be there, I did this with a Capri a couple of years ago and all the original dealer registration forms came with the paperwork, costs about £15 there abouts
