  • Lowering gte 60mm or 40mm

    Hi everyone

Ok just thought i would get a couple of views on lowering my standard gte.
I used to have a belmont 1600cc and i lowered it 30mm (i couldnt find any 40mm springs back then and i was younger and i want the car low) first and didnt really see any diffrence so i then got full suspension kit 60mm and WOW it was low

It was ok on cd belmont rims 14 inch runnin on 185/6014 ride not to bad but then i put on some 17 inch tsw imolas and my it looked good they were runnin on 205/4017 but my god the ride was harsh ok on smooth roads but take back road with pot holes not good.

Any how im waffling back to issue in hand how low to go will be keeping gte on standard rims so was just wanting some feedback from everyone out there on what everyone thinks is better 60mm or 40mm? oh ps and some pics if poss of 60mm drop and 40mm drop

    cheers

Re: Lowering gte 60mm or 40mm

ive got some 35mm mk3 eiback springs and it handles lovely
as far as im aware the 35/40mm will handle better than the 60mm ones

eibach no longer make mk2 springs but the mk3 gsi ones fit and work very very well

40mm is usually the better option.

My 16v was dropped 60mm when I bought it and it was rock hard and quite twitchy it also kepf breaking cv joints.

It's now dropped 25mm (well really its on a set of wheels in bits but I'm sure you know what I mean.)

I would go for the 40mm drop rather than the 60mm

I'm gonna be the odd one out and vote for 60mm springs. Yes they're a bit crashy on bumps but overall I don't mind mine on Jamex springs with Koni struts, handles well enough and think the 60mm drop looks better...

Had 40mm springs on it when I bought the car and to be honest doesn't handle alot differnt, maybe slightly less oversteer but very little between them.

i have to agree with John, ever 16v i have ever owned i have lowered 60mm tried a few different heights and there didnt seem much difference bewteen the 40 and 60 apart from height.

A point to note is the shock absorbers made more of a difference, with the Konis on board it was brilliant were as with the gmax and jamex shockers it was horrid, worth paying that little extra for either billys or the konis.

I seriously need new shocks on mine again...well...at least at the front. Half thinking of going back to standard height or maybe 30mm drop. It's all in the quality off the equipment, I have had some pretty dire consequences of fitting cheap springs!

                    Hello Everyone,

Looking for some advice on a new set of springs for the Gte,
I'm not sure what's already on it apart from being a old set of spax and I'm guessing 60mm ?

It's a road/track car that's hardly used so not bothered about the ride I've recently fitted a new set of fully adjustable Gaz shocks but Looking for a new set of springs so wondered if anyone can recommend a set, once fitted it's going to have a check and adjusted

Here are some photos to try to identify how low the springs are, the comps are 15"

                    Cheers
