I bought my 8v GTE at the end of last year and have done a few hundred problem free miles. It has been about 15 years since I had a GTE and wanted to check where the normal operating temperature should be on the digi dash. Mine goes between the 3rd and 4th segment, but more so in the 4th. I just wanted to ensure this was normal and it's not running too hot? I did a quick search, but couldn't find anything. Any advice appreciated.

All my photos have disappeared off the Internet (thanks Photobucket, really) and you're right, it's actually quite hard to find a photo of the normal operating temp. My 16v has always sat on the block arrowed in the 17 years I have owned it, I think the only exception was the next block blinked on briefly at the top of a Welsh mountain once with the fan on but soon dropped off again. I have a Monza GSE with the same design of LCD dash, and this occasionally used to flash the next block whilst driving for a few seconds. Rather different setup though, with a viscous fan driven off the crankshaft instead of electric. I replaced the thermostat when I had the radiator recored and that now sits on the arrowed block too.
The switch points of the digidash are relatively widely spaced to be fair, it's not actually that accurate. I posted the dealer leaflet about the digidash some years ago, I'll see if I can find it.

Yes, page 2 here if it helps...personally I would say if yours is regularly running to 100° that's too hot, assuming the dash is telling the truth.

Thank you very much for all of that. And it does make me think that it is a but warm. It currently has a cone filter fitted. I've Tuesday set aside to do some tinkering so I'll see if I have a standard air box which I could fit and see if that makes any difference. Thanks again.Comment
