    Re: Rally Opel Kadett

Done a lot of development this year, resulting in new engine - 190Hp limited at 7000rpm, 215Nm@5500rpm (stock exhaust manifold and tappets are biggest restricion now) and a lot of other bits and pieces. When winter comes, I will try to find more time to give some technical photos and some descriptions.

This years rally season in Baltics has ended (actually already three weeks ago) with me coming in 9th place in Latvias rally championship in my class (all two wheel drive cars except N group)

Here will be some pics made sept/okt
    Some action:

This is opening ceremony of Latvias bigest rally event:

And this is end of season - hitting oak in that right corner. Can't clearly see in these pictures, but damage is quite extensive - wishbone bent in three places, shock (also in three places), strut, upper rose joint, steering link, driveshaft, antiroll bar. From hit also is damaged oil pump. Anyway soon it all will be fixed:

bloody cracking effort there, thats an awsome cage . is that the 8v gear linkage you have raised up inside, instead of going underneath.? if so i've never seen that before, you usally see people adapting the 16v linkage into the 8v shell.

          of course

I will not throw out this car because of one more tree
Chasis did not suffer - it sthrenghtened to the level, where anything else bends first. I was offered custom made wishbones, several time stronger, but I am specially using stock wishbones, because of this reason - hitting something, this is the weakest place, so this is where it gets broken/bent without twisting chasis. On the other hand, they are enough strong to be fine, unless I am doing something stupid

Thanks! The cage is A group top spec(p.s. FIA homolagated), there isn't much you can ad to it. Safety first, especially considering that chasis is close to zero in this respect.

And also yes about gear linkage - this is from 8v, raised into saloon in order to allow place for exaust. And one more hole in firewall.
This was done for several reasons - about 16v linkage - we have seen, that during gravel rally those small levers on box are sometimes failing - joints pop off, or plastic gets broken. So we believed, that this is more reliable. And accuracy is also better than on 16v mechanisms I have seen - no problems hitting any gear. Last joint right before gearbox is made from metal, and lever mechanism itself is new.

Personally I better like cable linkages like toyota, but it is not meant to be for Kadett...

Last picture is very old - right after painting it, so these alloys came later.

Actually This car has a lot of sets of alloys
8 rims for winter tires (will post pict later)
6 rims for gravel (in upper pictures)
another 6 rims for gravel tires (stock 15" cavalier)
and two sets of 14' for regular street tires

                      Re: Rally Opel Kadett

Last weekend saloon radiator started leaking, so Behr unit was bought and we started fun - one day to take everything apart, and another to put it all back together. Here is one picture when assembly is going to end:

Took also several other pictures. Here is my dash, or more exactly one part of it - we had to cut in several pieces to rollcage
We had problem with vent routs coming apart so we glued it and later some rivets followed

Also by one installing one new addition

Erx, Good job with the car looks and performs great.

Just some more details on the Gear Linkage setup.

Did you use only 8v parts? or did you make any adaptors to fit it?

Do you have any pics of the engine side of the firewall showing the linkage to the gearbox and hole in firewall placement.

will try to make some on weekend.
I used only 8v parts - everything that is under the car was rised up in the saloon (mainly by welding) and in appropriate place in firewall a hole was cut.

Need some advice - I am in need for bigger front brakes - most reasonable offer I have found is 424 pounds for wilwood midilite kit in www.rallydesign.co.uk.

Are they fine shop, and maybe someone has some better idea?

                                Re: Rally Opel Kadett

I have delt with RallyDesign they are definetly cheapest around and seem to know what they are talking about... I would recomend them.

With the calipers I would look at ones with dust seals like these ones from there site. Forged Midilite Caliper (4-POT) Radial Mount £119.50.

They and other people say "they work fine without dust seals" and "never had a problem"... but here in Australia I have spoken to a few people who have bought and run the calipers without dust seals and they have had enough trouble to warn me and others about using them... they are having to pull the calipers off after every event and completely disasemble them to clean them.

I do live in a continent that is very dry and dusty at times to the extreme but if I was to spend that sort of money I would make sure I cover any possible problems.
