So is this going to get an lsd too? Or are you going to take the box out from j410? Do you change any internals when fitting or just new oil and any replacement gaskets are required?

Re: DarrenHs' GTE16v, third edition "project track day"

probably yes another diff. its the more expensive route but its not something i would like J410 NOT to have. things i would probably replace are diff carrier bearings and the oil seals

Re: DarrenHs' GTE16v, third edition "project track day"

So your still going to keep the quaife diff in what will now be your road/every day astra?

See, i loved my quaife in the astra when i had the c20let fitted, worth every penny! I'm now going to finish building my 'trackday' astra again. albeit with a standard xe for the time being. Now i've only ever experienced the quaife with the LET and am unsure whether the quaife is worth the cash with the xe???
Can you still feel the quaife working its magic when only 150 ponies?

          Regards
          Anthony

Re: DarrenHs' GTE16v, third edition "project track day"

yeah i mentioned it a couple pages back. when you drive a gte16v with a quaiffe for months/ years you actually take it for granted, you underestimate how much its actually doing for you benefit even on a day to day basis.

or to put it another way, going back to a bog standard gte16v you forget how hopeless they are at putting 150lbs for torque to the tarmac.

Ha, the one I sold to him is now many times better than when I owned it. This one will be too. Just being put to use in a different purpose.

Darren puts care into all his projects and doesn't seem to cut corners like many

lol its ok i did actually ask permission to strip it before i bought it. i dont think its the original interior anyway, although its the correct type.

the rear seats will live on as i am going to make a "topgear" style sofa out of the bench and backrest.

To be fair, you did. Just a shock seeing it's bare backside after getting everything back in there as best I could. Still.............rather some comfort on the way back than the noise you get from that thing stripped out!

Can't wait to see the finished results....................

not a very exciting update, i've been a bit lazy recently and without exaguration its been raining non stop for the last 8 days here

the OMP cage i bought was a knock down price old stock item, so its a few years old, its not painted, and its been in the damp shed for the last 2 weeks. so i had to polish off surface rust with some wire whool and elbow grease, then gave it a good coat of 1k acid etch primer.

also went down to my local metal traders and picked up a meter square of 3mm aluminium sheet. i'll take the sunroof out with its supporting cage, then draw round the glas + enough overlap, then pop rivett it in place with seam sealer too.

also big thanks to matt for pointing out these for sale on the GT4 owners club, a pair of sparco REV seats with side mounts. got them for an absolute bargain, probably saved a total of 500 quid if i wanted to replicate with brand new items.
