    Astra GTE 16v, C20XE NOT STARTING!!!

    I know there are thousands of threads with the same title, I have been through the majority of them!
    The car has been off the road for the best part of 2 years now, when it went away it was running!
    I have recently given it a service including, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter and spark plugs. Since it didnt start i went ahead and put a new coolant temperature sensor (CTS), cleaned the idle control valve, drained and filled up with new fuel and changed the coolant out.

    The car is turning over and starting for a brief second before cutting out. I have checked all the seals for air leaks and replaced the SFI box bottom seal as it was in a bad way. I have checked that the car is getting fuel and spark and all is okay there.

    I have also flashed the diagnostic plug and no codes come up but that didnt surprise me as the battery has been on and off a lot recently for charging!!

    Any ideas from anyone to what to check next because i am pulling my hair out!!

    i'll not be much help mate, but have you tried a tow start? may just need some encouragement if it was ok before being stored.

      Fuel pump relay faulty? they are a common weak point. Hall sensor connected? Does it have an alarm or imobiliser fitted ?
      At the "cutting" edge of mk2 rust prevention since 1996!

          To test that fuel was getting to the rail i disconnected the pipe, cranked it over and watched the fuel pour in to a bottle, Would that not mean the pump relay was working if fuel was getting through?? or does this do something different?

          Hall sensor is connected and secured with trusty cable ties as it was a little loose, it was in the same position when it was running before!!

            Sorry forgot to add the bit about the alarm / immobiliser. Yes it does have a Toad alarm and immobiliser fitted, this thought has passed my mind a lot since fitting all the new parts that the immobiliser is faulty which would probably mean an expensive auto electrician! Was hoping it might end up being a cheap sensor or something else that i have missed!!

              If it tries to run but won't quite then I'd be looking at the dizzy hall sensor and the air flow meter.

              Then again I've just had to replace a crank sensor and the plugs were sparking, just very weak and intermittent.

                Had a look in the dizzy and all seems clean and good, air flow meter, tried with it connected and disconnected, no difference!

                The plugs spark was very clear and bright when i tested them.

                Really struggling now!!!

                  You won't be able to tell anything by looking at the dizzy, you need a scope really ... I'm not saying that's the fault, just that it's a possibility.

                    Will have a look and see if i can get hold of another to try and see if it makes any difference!! Everything seems to be a possibility which is getting the stress levels high lol!!

                    All this lovely weather and the toy is stuck in the garage!!

                      Did you place the fuel filter the correct way around? It can block itself when it is not...

                        So you have fuel at the rail while cranking is there still pressure there when it has run and cut out? Does it splutter and die or just run and instantly cut?

                              Fuel filter is correct way round, double checked that when fitting, not checked the pressure when cut out, it just dies, doesn't rev or hunt or splutter, revs just drop off straight away
