Thread: Paint choice

    Right then!

Been looking at costs of paint and resprays etc for my Monaco blue GTE. When I eventually finish the body work, virtually every panel will need painting (the only bit I think is ok is the back bumper!!). I also have some bulkhead work to do so engine will more than Likley be out as well.

Question is do I pay the extra to have the original Monaco blue made up and spray in orginal paint? Or do I go crazy and respray the whole car in "off the shelf" Ardon Blue?

I know everyone likes the OEM look but as I virtually have the whole car to do anyway I just want people's opinion on what the car would look like in Ardon?
Has it been done on a mk2 before?

I thought all paint was mixed to order, except a few like ford diamond white for transits ect. Unless you mean rattle cans?

I say do it whatever colour you like tbh, it's your car. Mine was white, but not anymore lol.

You'll be able to get Monaco made up. My painters are already on stand by for mine to have both sides re-done later in the year.

I know I can get it, I just wanted to know if people thought a GTE would look right in a modern colour like Arden Blue. I love the car ( I must do with the amount of work needed!) so I suppose I am just looking for opions on the colour!

Keep it original, it will retain it's value far better. It's a rare and nice colour as well. Arden blue will look out of place as it's a modern colour.

Also a colour change will require every single bit of the car painting otherwise it will look poor. I know you said every panel needs painting anyway, but there will still be little bits that are a bit out of the way that don't get hit by paint.

Paint it what ever colour you like.?Its your car and id say a colour that will stand out from the rest of the boring original cars will sell for more and faster.
Just not arden blue though. The mk2 would look nice in it but theres every other corsa/astra mk4/5,vectra,vxr wearing it.Its being done to death.
So i say do it something alittle unual or stick with the monoco blue as its a cracking colour. But at the end of the day its your car and your money so do what ever you think will be best.

Thanks guys, I am still undecided at the moment, plenty of time left as I have only just started the body work and with no garage and winter on the way it will be a good while for I need to start worrying too much about paint.
I just wanted to try and visualise what it might look like when it's done.

Helps me stay motivated when its 2 degrees outside, I'm lying in the floor with rust in my eyes and some weld spatter goes in my ear!!

I don't think they look right in anything other than their original colours, i think arden blue would be a mistake, monaco blue is a gorgeous colour imo i would defo be sticking with it. I think it would appeal more to prospective buyers if painted in its original colour. Thats all just my opinion though, as said, it's your car so you can paint it whatever you like.

Agreed, needs door shuts boot floor, inside of the doors round the windows and who knows what other small places hiding away that you won't notice till it's too late.

Your car so you choose a colour but another vote against Arden Blue as it's too common imo.
