  • Astra 1.6 SR

Here is a pick of my first car. I've been trying to hunt this car down for years to no avail. It was and still is my favourite car ever. The day i sold it i have regreted ever since. I sold is back in 96-97.

I phoned the DVLA but they would'nt give me any info on it. The guy on the phone did hint to me that the last known area it was in was Inverkiething. I spent a whole day driving to and around all the streets but never saw it.

    Any help please get intouch

    Thanks

      When I was 19 I also had a MK1 1.6SR. A Reg in black. Reg number A330RJN.
Im sure this vehicle doesn't excist any more either. I sold it when I was about 23,Probably the biggest mistake of my life. Now knowing how rare they are and what they are worth.

That looked like a nice SR mate, but I agree with Simon, alas if it's been off the radar since 1998 it's quite unlikely it's survived. Shame really, it looks in good nick in that photo - did it have metallic paint? I never heard of one registered in 1984 either as I thought the sports models were delayed a while due to a metalworkers' strike in Germany. Wrong, clearly!

I'm glad you have fond memories of your SR though, shame you're so far away or I'd bring mine over to you. A guy got in touch with me a few years ago from Skelmersdale, he'd had a blue SR and ironically he crashed his at about the same time I crashed mine. He said the same as you - favourite ever car etc. He scrapped his though. They're slow, noisy and poorly equipped compared to a GTE but I'd never sell mine for any amount of money, there's just something about it that I love so much more than my GTE, let alone anything else

Hi, thanks for your reply's. This is what i feared but you never know. It had 114000 miles on it when i bought it and i sold it with 126000miles and it never broke down once. Engine was spot on. It had a k&n airfilter on the carb which i've still got and it made the engine sound great. I loved the sound of the 1.6 engine. The paint wasn't mettallic. It was the same as yours.RED. It was brilliant to polish. My favourite was the seats though. Comfyest ever. Overall it was in excellent condition. Just a few bits of rust showing but nothing really and was solid underneath. I had a cue of people always asking to buy it. I should of listened to them and realised it was to good to sell.

Thanks for your offer for a run in it. I would of loved that.

I'm so annoyed i never took any other pics of it. The one you see is the only one i've got. I love loooking at your pics as it reminds me of all the detail.

I know you've said you'll never sell it and i don't blame you but if for some reason it has to go please put me at the top of your list. It would go to an owner like yourself and you would have piece of mind that it would be looked after.

            Thanks Sam

Well, if I'm ever due to go anywhere near Dundee in it I'll let you know, stranger things have happened! I believe if you write to the DVLA and pay a token amount they can give you a list of the car's owners, you could write to the last owner and find out. At best they might have it sat in a barn, at worst they would say it's been scrapped (or stolen, the Mk2 was the joyriders' weapon of choice in the late '90s - both of mine have been TWOCed in the past before I bought them). Either way, at least you'd get some closure.

And yes, if I ever sell (I won't... ) I'll let you know. A good home would be the most important thing.

                Re: Astra 1.6 SR

Thanks mate. I thought the dvla would only release the information if you were the owner at present?

                  Re: Astra 1.6 SR

I'm not 100% on that one, it seems to depend on who deals with it. In theory you're right and I'm talking a few years ago, but they've been known to help if the car no longer has a registered keeper - since yours has been neither taxed or SORNed since 1998 it probably doesn't - so you might get lucky. The last known registered keeper may be able to tell you its' fate. Worth the cost of a stamp...

                      Re: Astra 1.6 SR

I got my 1.6 sr when i was just 18! some 17 years ago and never sold it! and i'm the second owner! i do wish i hadn't have modded it so much though! and i wish i could heve kept the second one i had but with young kids i sold it for a belmont sxi! but proud to have had two fjord blue SR's at the same time. I'm rebuilding mine again to more of a standard look but it will never go back to how it was! but i'd kill for a standard '86 SR again, something so special about them! my mate had two mk1 sr's at the time i'll take one of each! But good luck on chasing your dream.

Thanks. If all else fails, i'm going to have to keep my eye out for another SR but being so rare its going to be hard to find.

                        Good luck with your resto

If I hear of one anywhere, I'll let you know. There's only 7 left on the road according to DVLA, but we did see one for sale about a year ago in Wiltshire, it was on here, so it's not out of the question...
