  • Alloy Radiator Issues

Chaps, I've mentioned elsewhere that I have had Alloy Rad issues

Copied here so as not to clutter the other chaps thread ...

" I've had two alloy rads from TXAutosport in the UK and they both leaked after a while, not lasted 12mths either of them .... just sold my spare standard rad to Mark2 ... bugger !!"

TX after seeing photo's of the problem have offered me another rad ... trouble is this will be the third .... do I really want a third one?

has anyone got one of these that has lasted? and if so what the heck am I doing wrong, if anything?

    Re: Alloy Radiator Issues

I think Mick G has had one in the silk violet GTE for some time now. Could where it is mounted be twisting/flexing it? Is it solidly mounted or on rubbers?

The both leaked where the rails/fins meet the two sides. They seem to work loose. Tell tail is stain marks and loss of water.

Well worth asking Forge for one. More expensive but doesn't break. Dominic there is a very good fabricator and his stuff doesn't break.

I dare say these are all made in China so it's a bit hit and miss with the quality

Yes, they usually can't even spell the word alloy...

                          Re: Alloy Radiator Issues

Well that's the third radiator gone, this time on one of the end box sections, split along the edge where it's been bent to form a box.

Won't bother with another, ordered a brand new genuine Vaux this time ... well for £25 it's a bargain.

I guess I must be really lucky then! Still got No.01 going strong.... Still got a 2 month old genuine one, but that was my third genuine one, first two (also brand new!) started leaking around the plastic boxes quite soon....

BlackBox, same happened to me. Just after a year of use it started leaking, End Box sections. Supplier was not helpful. In the end I replaced it with OEM spec. Touch wood, has been OK. Really annoyed though, as I thought that the alloy rad should be near enough bullet proof....obviously not!
