Waiting for our arrival later this week...



Scrutineering and the King of the Hill event are on the 23rd and 24th and Rally Barbados is on the 30th and 31st of the month.

Stages look good, just planning on a steady run to get used to the car and we end up where we end up at the finish - hopefully without damage or problems.

Wow, fantastic.. Not checked your build thread out for a while so plenty for me to catch up on.. Engine looks and sounds really healthy, you cant beat throttle bodies

LOL @ Darren. I think theyre Vauxhall branded ones from Thule or another such manufacturer. This is the 3rd Rally Barbados they have done.

Slight modifications with some wooden cross pieces and they work well.

Thanks Mick - Engine is good and bodies sound awesome but the driver needs to be tuned to match :-)

So the story of our event....

First job was to unpack the car, refit the passenger seat and actually finish the car off with a stack of parts we took out with us. That took the first 2 days of our trip.



We also had to get the alignment rechecked - just some toe changes needed and all was well again.



Then onto scrutineering - this is a social affair once the car is checked and it turns into a bit of a party. The car passed with no problems.



Then onto King of the Hill. The first competitive mileage for the car. 4 runs (1 practise and 3 timed) through a 3 mile stage. First practice run was slow to feel the car. Next run was quicker until the cable change linkage popped off so we temp fixed that with cable ties. Then 2 decent timed runs getting 2-3 seconds quicker each time and playing with the Proflex settings as we went.



And an incar video from the 2nd run. We went another 3 seconds quicker on the run after this but the GoPro didnt get started!

Then it was time for beers and social...



We then reprepped the car on the Monday - including some machine shop work to get the gear linkage tapped for a bolt to hold it on properly and then took it to our hotel to get some coverage and photos as they helped and supported us for the visit.

Thanks Laurie... I meant the story continues today. The rally was done 2 weeks ago!

So onto the rally. 3 days, starting on Friday night with 2 stages at the Bushy Park Racetrack, Saturday had 4 loops and 11 stages total and Sunday had 3 loops with another 8 more stages.

We started Friday night very well. 4th quickest time in class on the 1st stage (from 12 in class)





and then the gearknob came off in my hand on the 2nd stage, meaning I couldnt get 2nd or 1st gears due to the collar coming off too and almost hitting reverse, then a stall and lost 9 seconds. Bugger. Fixed that with superglue overnight and started the Saturday stages but the collar was damaged so problem reoccurred until I cable tied the collar so we couldnt get reverse anyway.





Had a couple of decent stages but Saturday was mainly learning the car. Youtube link of my favourite stage at:

So finished Saturday as 4th in class and planning a battle for 3rd for the Sunday. Started checking the car on Sunday morning and found a leaking diff oil seal. Removed shaft, cleaned up, new oil and all seemed OK.

On the way to the first stage of the day, the inner CV popped out. I thought I hadnt reseated it properly but managed to get it all reseated at the side of the road and went to the 1st stage.

On the 1st stage, it went again but managed to drive the car on the tight diff out of stage and then changed the entire shaft for a spare at the side of the road. Onto 2nd stage of the day. 2 miles in, all good then it went again. Managed to drive the car the final 2 miles of stage plus 5 miles back to service on 1 shaft.



So stripped the shaft etc off the car and then we realised that the end of the driveshaft had snapped off in the diff first thing that morning (or late last night) where the snap-ring fits. I didnt realise when reseating the shafts earlier in the day (at the roadside in a hurry) but the snap-ring was still in place in the diff and the snapped off bit was floating about in there too so the inner CV couldnt clip into place.

So we stripped the diff out of the box and stripped the diff completely..



Then started re-assembling it all, but just couldnt get it all back together in time so we were out of the rally. The small piece between the diff and inner CV caused all the trouble..



So we got everything back together enough to get towed back to the storage area and did this......



Then the next day, we repacked the car ready for the long voyage home and had a few days holiday.



Planning to have the diff / a diff refitted for a trip to Billing...
