Than i moved to another garage closer to home.
Started to clean the bottom of the car. A hell of a job. Lying on your back, getting al the metal threads of the wheelbrush in the overall and head en hear etc etc etc.
But i got it all off:

Started with strengthening the chassis:

incl the mounting for the steering-column:

I took a good look in the engine bay and saw to much rust beneath the topmounts. So i removed them

Than talking to a guy with a C20LET in a simple chassis, he told me his "firewall"? (don't know the correct translation) cracked from the left to the right.

I made some modifications (still with the thought of getting a rollcage):

We are nou 2 or 3 years further since the beginning.. My skills with bodywork and welding were growing. So looking toe the arches and "doorsteps" etc, it was definately not straight nice and professional..

So i got the flex and did this

Bought an Intercooler from an Opel Movano:

But the intercooler is now for sale. It's to small for my new plans, considering the amount of HP i want.

I decided to drive without the original interiour so started with welding shut 180!!! holes and gaps in the chassis... I NEVER do that again. haha.

In progress, not even on the half of the work...

I specially searched for a chassis with a sunroof. But plans are changing, and it had to go.
Chopping a roof from a donor kadett: (becaus ofcourse, roof was no longer supplied by the dealers)

My roof drilled out:

Than it was time (already march 2008) to really strengthening the chassis. I was searching for some real rollcage builders, and come across a construction company, which owner drives rallysport in the netherlands with an original oldskool ford.

I moved the car on a saturday to his company, and a week later it was finished, and picked it up.

After a few months collecting more parts (i will show later on) I welded the seat frames in the car, en fitting the dashboard.

the year 2008, buying a lot of beautiful, but very expensive parts..

in December 2007 i went to Essen Motorshow, to look for some parts i wanted. I had some ideas for wheels in my mind. It had to be 9x16" wheels, probably 3 piece wheels..
First went to Stahl wheels. there was standing a dealer of those wheels on Essen. But the idiot asked way to much money. So bye bye, you aint selling wheels today.
After walking 3 times alongsinde Schmidt felgen... looking at girls and one specific wheel... I bought a set wheels. 9x16", with 2.5" Radinox edges with golden bolts.. 2.5" edges, will make the wheel automaticly ET 21.

the wheels were deliverd in begin 2008:

The golden bolts were seperate in the box, so i had to change them one by one. On the photo there are the standard silver bolts in.

then i found a Race/Rally shop.. It's just like a candy store..

First ordered a set of seats, and on the internet schroth-shop i ordered a set of 6 point harness.

I already knew i went for enough power.. And that is automaticly, bigger brakes.
We went to the shop and the old man enjoy it. He was surprised i did it for a hobby, and not as a rally driver. So the good old man went to his storehouse, and grabbed some parts to fit in the wheel.

He wanted to fit the 6 pot caliper from AP into it.
My wheel and parts for the brakes went away to a machine shop. Unfortunately, the six pot caliper needed a bigger radius, than my wheel had. So it became an 4 pot race caliper. I wanted the biggest disc, there was possible. Normal with 16" 315-320mm is the max.
But they made it to a 325mm disc.
Because the wheel is flat on the inside, the wheel had to come out more. So incl spacer the ET is now around 5. so: 9x16" ET5

And on the evenings i made my own dark headlights:

Cool update. Is the car going to drive ok on an ET5 offset? It's designed specifically to run ET49................

in 2009, the same guy, who did my arches years before, started on my rear arches. But now they had to get wider, because of the brakes in my wheels

In one day, both left and right were finished for 70% in steel.

He moved to the otherside of the Netherlands, and ofcourse, new house etc, he had no time to finish it.
My owner car painter is a one man business, so did not had the time to finish the complete arches.
So i started myself with the front. Never did it, so just trying:

This was only cutting the metal, and bending it. Then i welded it. I didn't tap the metal yet, because didn't have that experience yet.

So the rough shape of the frontwings:

I made the decision to bring the car away to a metalworker. One of the biggest mistakes. the car stood there for almost 8 months.

After 8 months (so we were already in 2010), and a lot of excuses i took the car away from there, an brought it to my friend with his paintshop. After checking the arches good, it was never near the 100% i want. It was about 70% finished.

When my friend and I have more time, we start working on the arches again.

In the mean time i bought a C20LET:

Then while the car was at the paintshop, i choose a color/colour?.. We decided to paint the inside already, after I and another friend made the inside smoother with sanding etc.

and remember the roof? He painted it, and then we glued it to the car.

In May 2010, the rules changed here, so i had to buy AGAIN a new set of doors. the otherones were complete smooth. With these new doors, I will only get the locks out.

there i ordered some pistons and rods. And ARP bolts. because an engine is so f*cking expensive i sometime buy piece by piece for the engine.

@ Davey J. Thanks for your compliment.
And about the driving.. the original characteristic of the car is completely gone due to the rollcage. So you can't look at the standard figures. But i'm sure it will change the handling of the car. If it is negative, of positive... Time will tell. I really have no idea.
If you look at the Bergrennen cars in germany etc, Kadett C etc. those carse are driving with a negative offset, and they are driving like complete idiots through the bends.. Off course those cars are 10 times more expensive.. but again.. time will tell..

Hi Roger, the Kadett C's run a much lower offset anyway due to being RWD. What I was getting at is the FWD Vauxhalls are designed to run a much higher offset due to negative scrub geometry that they were designed for. Lower offsets seem to make them tramline quite badly. I had this with some TSW wheels back in the late 90's on an ET38 if memory serves.

I love Euro'd MK2's and yours looks like a very exciting project. I dare say expensive too.

that's true what you say, but the kadett C was just an example. There are also FWD cars there.
I've droven with ET20 from a friend, and that was hardly a problem. But i have to say, the undercarriage of that car was complete new, and the shocks were adjustable. Only when you get in the really deep tracks (from trucks/lorrys) on the highway, you have to watch out.
I can't say anything about it yet...When i'm finished in 15 years, i'll let you know, how it drives haha.

It is a few years back. Don't know exactly. I believe in 2007. original was not longer suplied. So i got A-quality imitation panels. (it didn't fit very well, tbh.) I got it from Arta Parts. (www.artaparts.nl) But they don't deliver the right side anymore, i see on that website.

That is awesome. When its finished will you dare drive it. Is the engine rebuild going to be as in depth as the bodywork if so were all in for a real treat.

What do you mean with in depth as the bodywork? That the engine will be completely overhauld?

The complete engine will be done yes. Only not in one time. Everytime i will save and order some parts. Otherwise it's way to expensive.
I'm still in hesitation about some things/parts.
First, wich tuner. V-Max, or EDS in germany.
Wich turbo? for example, the KKK29, or a garrett 30xx ?
Wich flywheel? One that will not shatter
etc
