me and brett decided after going to a track day at donnington in his GTE that we would make a video camera mount for his car because at donnington they wouldn't allow hand held cameras! they had to be on a fixed mount.
i had a thought a while ago on how to make one but it was a crap idea. then today at work i had a brilliant idea! i txt brett telling him to come over tonight so we could decide the best place to put it and make one up!
i remembered that dad has a load of old angle iron stuff lying around so we grabbed a few bits of that and went to the shed, put the heater on and got to work! (the shed is insulated and it was nice and warm!) we flattened one piece out by shutting it in the vice, then bent about 2" of it over 90* so we could bold the base plate to it. we didnt want the base plate as wide so i put a decent blade in the hacksaw because we couldn't find a decent disc for the angle grinder. i cut the lipped part off and then smoothed the sharp edges off of both of them with a paper disc in the angle grinder. we then bolted the 2 pieces together. i had allready found a small bolt with the same thread as the tripod thread in the bottom of the camera so we bolted the camera on and took it to the car. we thought of drilling a hole throught the diagional of the cage and bolt it through but didnt really want to, we then came up with the idea of using an exhaust 'U' clamp! i had a stock of these in the shed and found one the right sise.
the angle iron has a lot of holes in it so the hight is adjustable and it can easily be bent to get a good angle! also when the camera is on the mount we can turn the lcd screen around and it is mirrored so we can get the zoom right with it in position!
we haven't fitted to the car yet but brett is coming over again on wednesday night to fit it and got out for a drive/trial run!
we were both very chuffed with how it went and cant wait to try it out on wednesday!
we will add more pics of it fitted on wednesday.
