Easy people,

Ive got a dilemma!Does she stay or does she go!? Ive got a MK2 astra GTE 16V in Bordeaux Red and before i carry on i`m telling you the worst! :)

Shes done 170,000 miles (bad aint it) but she has everything she has needed done over the years and someone has obviously taken care of it. Compression tests all came out between 210 and 220 BUT some clever shite has crossed threaded a spark plug! So... the heads coming off!
i`m considering a re-build so if anyone knows some good names it`d be good..
Has anyone else here had one done?
Apart from that all i have had to do is replace the rocker cover gasget and renue the hoses.

The bodywork has got the usual probs..the front driver sill needs doing, the passenger side has been done. Both rear arches have been repaired but the rots back for more! A few dents on her and a knock on the passanger arch a little nasty but not major. the paintwork apart from that isnt bad at all and no other signs of rust.
A respray is on the cards as re-shelling isnt really an option due to time/money/space...Any names or rough prices for this sort of work?
Has anyone else here rescued their motor from the rot?

Basically i want to keep her and restore her to her former glory but i havent got the funds to be chucking 000`s at it. I could wait for a mint one to come up for sale but as you know there aint many about!

What d`ya rekon?

p.s my answer will be alot shorter than this! :D

Go for it. You don't have to spend thousands.

You could always re-shell her with a good lesser model ie a merit shell

Yeah, if i had the time and space i would give it a go, its a bit of a bitch really but i think i`m gonna try and tackle the original shell then move onto the rebuild..

Have you had to do much bodywork repairs?

The sensible choice i think.

Ive been doing some hunting around on MIG and it looks like i might be in luck with an engine.I`m not sure of the details yet,but i`m, going to give him a call as he only lives a few streets away!? I`m a bit cautious about buying a second hand engine rather than a reconned one coz you never really know much about its true history or what it was REALLY like before it was taken out.
