  • engine builders in norfolk.

the c20 let engine i just bought has spun it's shell due to oil starvation.
who will rebuild the engine and what is the rough cost of the work?

how much doe's it cost to build a bottom end to a higher spec than standard?

Stock bottom end is good for a fair amount of torque+bhp over standard, if it was me I'd keep it all stock but fit arp rod bolts while it's in bits!

Also when you say rebuild, I assume you mean you need new piston rings, bores rehoned etc? Thought the damage (as you've had it apart) was limited to the one rod cap and bearing or is there more damage?

If only the cap damaged, I'd fit new bearing cap(s), and new bearings on all rods and arp bolts

Depending on how much you wanna spend mate, i'd get in contact with either V-Tuning or 'steveboyslim' off mig.

If you wanna keep it local, might be worth chatting with APT??

Theres no way you can just cost it up without seeing it.

The crank might need a regrind, the mains may need line boring,

If you want it done right it wont be cheap!

Might be better off trying to source a good bottom end complete

mate i had the exact same thing happen to me when i brought my c20let, and this is wot i done: new crank (early gte ones are lighter), new low millage block, new shells big end bearings and piston rings and a set of arp rod bolts, i gave the bores a clean up with a honeing tool on the drill and replaced every gasket possable, while you got the head off mate you might aswell re grind the valves and put new steam seals in, you then have a nice base to work from and a tip top condition c20let which will be very reliable!!!

Note that an XE bottom end will work fine, just needs the oil return sorting

yep forgot to mention that......if you can put the engine in yourself mate, then you aint goin to have any more trouble re-building it yourself, then you got the satisfaction that you have done it all yourself and that everything is right and done up!!
