Here's my Astra :) The last picture was taken yesterday after the fabrication of the first side had been completed. Believe it or not, this car WILL be ready for Santa Pod on the 30th (ie. 9 days time)
When the bodywork is done, I'll be fitting my Cortenay/Bilstein kit, VMAX EVO 2 chip, SFS blue inlet hose, set of Toyo Proxe T1-S's, a few new shiny bits and a pair of front seats. Then a polish, some lazer alignment and an oil change. Busy boy.

Definitely more pictures to follow mate.
I only bought the car in mid December and it's been over at the bodyshop for far longer than I ever had it at home (I only drove it for a week or two).
I stripped the interior out because I wasn't too keen on the light coloured dash/seats/plastics. I am breaking a H plate GTE 16v with the chap who owns the bodyshop (see Parts For Sale section), and luckily it has a dark interior. For Santa Pod, the light dashboard and two front seats are all that will be in the car. After that's out of the way I will be swapping the dash/fitting a brand new black carpet that came with the car/brand new gearstick gaitor/all the black plastic trims and door seals/dark rear seats etc., there's also a set of leather front Conolly's I've got my eye on.
The car will be a complete sleeper with no Turbo badging, no tacky spoilers (apart from maybe a VR6 front splitter) and will be resprayed in the original Mistral Grey.
Future plans will include a polished half cage, FMIC and a nice head unit.
Thanks for reading peeps :)

Nice...
You probably guessed I'm still trying to work out how to do mine, I like the way they solve the overspray problem though, I'll have to get inventive, got some groundsheet somewhere.
Looks like they are going to put a blend line in below the rear windows, but where will the blend be on the back corner? The paint looked much nicer on yours before the work anyway, so I guess I'll be spraying right up to the roof on mine. Aha... that's for the primer coat...
Looking very encouraging there now Paul. That workshop simply is to die for too.

Yeah, its going to be sprayed right up to the foof-rail gutter thingies this time. It will be going back in the summer to have the roof, bonnet, bumpers and tailgate perfected/sprayed too.
Definitely a good workshop with all the heaters/extractor fans/compressors etc. It's concrete floor is even built on a slight slope with a gutter system so the dust can simply be washed out with a water hose.
I used to do bits of bodywork myself and swap wings and things, but these days I'd rather just tag a bit on the mortgage and get somebody else to do it - family time is sacred ;)

The main problem was that Courtenays hadn't sent any metal bushes for the rear shocks - the pistons are stronger but slimmer than the original Vauxhall ones and would rattle about without the correct bushes (these are coming on Tuesday).
It will take a while to clean out all that bloody dust.
I need to have all four new Toyo's fitted and the car laser aligned.
I also want to give it an oil and filter change, refit the seats/SFS induction hose/chips/front seats/new fogs/sill protectors etc etc.....
I should be blasting about in it midweek hopefully mate :)

Have I missed something here? It's the springs that set the ride height isn't it? If you're running 18s on a Cally the profile must be 35 or something to make up for it. Larger rim diameter, smaller profile. How do you mean?
Got 17s on the Merc, but the overall diameter makes the sidewall height of a 45 profile 235 tyre plenty to avoid knocks and bangs.

I agree, but this is purely from a safety aspect.
Steve B who built and owned the beautiful MK2 LET Champion that Phat SR is now selling, had a very very serious crash in a high powered MK2 Astra and the cage was the only thing that saved his life.

Haven't got a cage yet mate - its on my 'To Do'/'Save Up For' list at the moment.
I'll have to dig out my Total Vauxhall collection to find the article about a company who custom makes cages for specific cars. I will be re-fitting the darker rear seats and the rest of the interior at some point so I would need plenty of clearance - no tight fitting competition jobbies.

From what I've seen, you definitely get what you pay for. The work involved over the last few weeks has been phenominal - it has included the skills of three craftsmen and their attention to detail has been fantastic. This car is now stronger and better sealed up than when it rolled off the production line 14 years ago..........................................it should be good for another 14 now :)

Well done mate! Your really getting there now, can't wait to see more pics once exterior is completed, and then seeing it in the flesh.
Chips are mad, haven't much knowledge of them, but was it just a straight unplug/plugin swap?
Yeah, straight swap but its very fiddly separating the two circuit boards. I was probably THE most nervous person in Britain when I actually came to fit the chips on Sunday night LOL - 28 very fragile pins on each chip

I plugged the ECU back in and it at least starts LOL!! Can't wait to get it onto the open road though - I just need a few minor details like doors/wings/bumpers/seats etc :)

best finish everything now rather than leaveing loose ends, since such a detailed job has been done on the rest of the car.
I find fixing all the little things can infact be the most time consumeing aspect of a car, mainly because its not as much fun + finishing a job is the hardest part, because you always want to move on to bigger and better things.

Totaly agree mate, I get so impatient with fiddly little things and often end up c0cking them up.

The doors went back on yesterday - the coulour matches perfectly too.
I also removed the remains of the interior and any unnecessary ICE wiring that the last owner had installed.
The engine runs with the new chips in but won't climb above 2200 rpm :(
I'll try the standard chips back in just to make sure that the ECU itself is fine before I go and get Dave Franczak too involved :lmao:

How about black then, or the same Mistral Grey as the car perhaps?
Yep, that's fine. Sorry, just a personal thing, as soon as polished roll cages are mentioned I think of boyed up Novas with massive speakers in the back.

Starting to look like a car again now :)
We got the bumpers wings and bonnet struts on today, replaced the broken foglight and headlamp spray unit.
On Monday the whole car will be flatted and polished - we'll also be fitting the rest of the suspension kit.

The Courtenay/Bilstein kit is now fitted with the correct rear bushes.
The insides of the rear wheel arches have been treated to a wire brush attachment session and a dam good spraying of rubberised underseal.

The long task of preparing the sills to accept the sideskirts begins. Robin has made a special one-off jig tool to line the clips up.

That rubberised underseal stuff looks like really good stuff. I take it, it protects and can be cleaned easily?

Yep, excellent stuff mate - the stones will just bounce off, easy to clean with a pressure washer too :) (I had it done to my last Nova project).
