Sounds like a feature car to me! Very nice, and looks like a nice workshop too, alot of space! The interior needs to be done tho, also I don't think those side skirts suit it very well, they sort of break up the smooth lines of the car but thats just my opinion.

Lovly car and an ace paint job!

EDIT: Welcome to the forums btw Kiran m8!!!

kiran_s
05-01-2005, 11:59 PM
yeh i wish that ws my workshop lol, iv done it all out my garage, thats just where it got sprayed.

yeh i was hopeing the sideskirts would work but we'l see.
as for the int, it sstarted with the mk3 dash, got the cobras etc to go in plus prob a few tv's :D

i like the mk3 gsi bumpers on mk2's! i think they look great! not sure about those side skirts tho! not to my taste. its your car tho not mine! how hard was it to get the mk3 dash in?

REMUS
06-01-2005, 01:41 AM
Yeah I ment to ask, how did you fit the mk3 bumper, splitter and how did you do the big mouth mod?

kiran_s
06-01-2005, 02:05 AM
oo now that wld be tellin! lol
the bumper was prob 300% easier than the dash.
the bumpers suprinsingly easy, fits easy enough jus needs new holes drilling for front mounts and i bonded on the old slider mounts off the mk2 bumper.
the big mouth is like and body mod really, i removed the metal bumper support, cut out the number plate support and fibrglass/filled the open areas. would of been better to foam the holes to looking back on it. i also left a 1-2mm 'gully' for the mesh to slide into.

right the dash, hmm pain in the ass! had to cut here there and everywhere, welded on the mk3 mountings, had to chop the glove box as it fouls the mk2 bulkhead. wiring is a pain but theres a good guide i used off mig.
biggest problem is the heater, i could be arsed to get it all working so left it on hot, windscreen/vents. makings a custom centre console as the mk3 one dont really fit.

ahh, i might have a go at that, the front end looks really good!

I am loving your car mate ,i think the two tone was a Vgood choise for this .I cant wait to see the pics when its done :D ,i think the GSi bumpers will be the road im going after seeing a few they suit the mk2 to the ground .

Welcome to Mk2.com btw ,hope you will get regular and keep us up to date on this ;)

cheers fella, im feelinfg thats the only down side to oit, its so popular now that its already been done 3 or 4 time, and i like the one off's so i might have to cook up somethin special for the next front end.

anyone know where i can get a quality smooth scuttle for 2 wipers? i did buy one off mig but the bosdy shop wernt to impressed with the quality as it had no mountings etc and the mold was a bit poo

REMUS

kiran_s
07-01-2005, 01:36 AM
niel aint it? there loads of options iwth two-tone, i went for a fairly simple line but you can do crazy things, he did offer to fade mine but i chose the line instead, you could fade it with flames (bit fast n furious though) a 3 tone blend? options are fairly unlimited seeing as you have mad paint already, never seen a flip two-tone?

REMUS
07-01-2005, 02:03 AM
i think your paint job is ok, not my bag tbh but any more extreme and it wouldn't do the cars appearance any favours, if it where me I would of coated the entire car in that blue, it's very nice, a bit darker than the one I have in my sig with the avez C's (if anyone see's any azev C's for sale second hand I want to know!!!)

kiran_s
07-01-2005, 02:10 AM

very nice

I've seen a few cars with two tone paint job's not many in the same style as kirans tho, they usually don't have a secondary colour on the boarder and the design is usually more like sweeneys sig, bonnet then on the front pillar back, across the base of thw windows, on the roof and boot.

There are quite alot of variations on the general theme tho.

Loving the car mate. Good to see progress atlast, i remember mailing u about the car on Mig ages ago. If someone described it to me I'd think urgh no, but it's turned out looking real good!
I don't usually like clear rear lenses but I think they could look real good on your car with those colours. The no spoiler look is good in my opinion (as mentioned in other other previous mails) would look even better if the rear wiper was removed and blanked over.

well done mate, keep us posted.

still work in progress so ignore the standard brakes, ignore the poo interior, ignore the exhaust and fog light(just for mot) and its just been moped so needs a dam good clean!

Looks sweet even though its dark and dirty! Still not keen on that rear wiper kiran. I was wondering what you were going to do with the plastic rear three quater trims. Leaving them black would look odd as there's no other black parts on the car, yet color coding them can look dodgy. How about a set of smooth nexia jobies.

hmm do i want to go single wiper? car had a major set back on the way to the mot, i put the wheels on and asked the sprayer to tighten them which he agreed, guess what, the cunt dint and a wheel fell off, arch is fooked, bumpers not bad at all, sideskirts fuked where the arch dented in, he agreed to sort it for free but the mechanic inspected it and has had to replace one of the koni's (with standard shock) so do i make the sprayer pay 4 that too? hes cost me soo much and was on recomendation! cracked on of my rear lights, pulled off the rear window seals that are £70 each!

bit stuck what to do with it, the body shop done a few bodges and one of the door handles is about to fall out!!
also found some rust in the front chassis, not great for the show car i want to turn it into! so do i reshell and make it with the full on interior etc as a show car?

OR

reshell but complety strip the interior and make it silly fast?? (seems silly chucking loads of money into a old car thats gonna be all throught the front wheels when it maybe better to go jap for speed??)

OR

reshell making it a show car that will still be pretty quick(just a standard LET with a few tweaks)?

astrasteve23

turbo 4X4!!!!

kiran_s
22-06-2005, 11:53 AM
now this did also tinker in my mind, making a racer then eventually 4x4ing it, but frackly i dont have the knowledge to do so and it would cost far to much gettin it done proffesionally, would be more cost affective to buy something rear wheel drive later on?

richie00boy
22-06-2005, 12:01 PM
How bad is the rust? Maybe you don't need to reshell it, finding good shells isn't easy.

kiran_s
22-06-2005, 12:05 PM
well theres quite alot on the front of the car on most areas of the slam panel and inside the front errr subframe?? the sills are also weak, iv already patched 3 large holes and put in a whole new drivers footwell

http://img218.echo.cx/img218/6804/image5331ra.th.jpg (http://img218.echo.cx/my.php?image=image5331ra.jpg)

http://img218.echo.cx/img218/2725/image5367hm.th.jpg (http://img218.echo.cx/my.php?image=image5367hm.jpg)

and if you look inside the rear arches from inside the car there is alot of tiny dots of rust, rub at these and you'l find that the intire inside of the archs is rust, may only be surface rust but it doesnt look good!!

Was it hard to fit?

kiran_s
22-06-2005, 02:55 PM
to be honest looking back on it, not really, it didnt help that my wiring had been hacked by the previous owner! but its not a bad fit for a DIY job although the only controls i have on the heater are speed, havnt sussed the directional or temp yet!

you might remember my yellow mk3 let from 5 or 6 years ago though was a while ago now. am i right in thinking then you work in the bodyshop enviroment

i wasnt into cars 5 or 6 years ago so prob not lol, i would of only been 14, nah i dont i work for royal mail lol, all this body work stuff is done in my garage! not fun!

i got a fair bit planned, wide archs, 19"s, lexus front bumper, vauxhall angel eyes (not telling what off of) and maybe m3 rear lights and a fuel cap re-position but not sure on this either!?

thought id make a show car of it rather than push loads of power through the front wheels! where ya live then?

was i nice car indeed, in the big scrapheap in the sky, however i am currently creating somethin that some ppl will love and others will hate, dif vaux front AND rear lights, different front that no one to my knowledge has done and something special down the sides. watch this space! :)
