  • Swap shop (borrow shop)

I have an idea, (stop moaning at the back), for some reason, today, i'm brave enough to suggest in on here without worring about getting the p*** ripped out of me!

I've had GTE's for about 5 years now. Over the years new parts have been brought in an attempt to fix minor problems.

For instance, i brought a new distributer when my car was over fueling and generally being a bastard.

The problem turned out to be a coolent temperature sensor. £125 distributer, CTS £15. But as it turned out the distributer does have a minor problem in that if you leave the car sitting for any longer than a week it runs like a bag of shit for the first drive of the day.

Anyway the reason for this thead is to suggest a sort of borrow shop where people could post items that they have to help diagnose other peoples problems. The item could be sent, but the persons name logged and then if ever anyone else needs it, everyone knows where it is.

Maybe i've just given away the idea for the next e-bay style web site or im chatting a page full of s**t.

    Thanks for reading anyway.

    Suggestions Welcome.

Or you could just take the parts to the persons house that is having trouble and they can buy them if required? It's a nice idea but no doubt some bastard would abuse it and steal some stuff if given half a chance + when things get broken... etc it can be more bother than it's worth.

A nice idea but I don't think it is a practically sound one.

I'd agree with remus and already have been round with several bits of my GTE to help someone with a Cav GSI get it going. It looks like we've got a few people all over the country here, so I'm pretty sure we can help each other locally.

Good idea, but someone's bound to abuse it. I suppose if you already know the person you're lending the bits to then there's no problem.

For example, I own an engine crane and will probably only use it once a year on average... it could easily be pulling someone else's engine out the rest of the time but if it was ever difficult to get it back, or it got damaged, where would I stand? All of the people I know I'd have no problem with, but then there's all the people I don't know and how to go about establishing trust.

Yep, that would probably work. As said above, things will probably settle down nicely once people get to know each other.
