Some of you may recognise me from MIG. Hi :D

I have a 1.6 mrk2 Astra and have made it look slightly like a GTE replica (sad i know, but at the time i couldnt afford a GTE's insurance, and now I can, I cant find one thats good enough, near to me :(

Anyways, ive always wanted to mod the 16sv engine to see what it would be capable of doing. At the moment I have a Weber 32/34 dmtl carb and PiperCross PX3000 air filter.

Other than a leaking inlet manifold gasket which is causing headaches, its a pretty nice engine, and is fairly whippy.

But my main problem is the rust on the bodywork. The floorpan of it is pretty much mint. There is only one patch in the engine bay, and the boot is also good.

Its around the windscreen where its gone bad. Lifting up the rubber surround, its plain to see that rust has got in pratically everywhere around the windscreen.

My question is this: Is it worth getting it sorted out? It is defo something I cant attempt myself (no garage etc).

Or should I just wait until I find a 16v GTE and spend the money on that?

Is a bodyshop gonna take one look at give me a silly price to fix it?

Pics to follow shortly....

depends really, imo you should see if you can get one of those 8v's redline or mace is selling, they are plenty fast enough. Then get a rotten 16v and do a swap over later if you crave more power ;)
