i can pi55 all over a 106 1.5diesel! my mate used to have one think they are 58/60bhp, he had a green induction kit on it and it was the same speed as my old mk3 astra 1.4spi (60bph) with a green induction kit! my mk2 crapped on it! check your vacume advance unit on the dizzy, if it's nackered it'll be way down on power! mine was bust when i got the car, it was about the speed of my mk3! i got a new GM one trade for £14ish and it went a hell of a lot better after! advance the timing on the dizzy slightly too. my car is the same speed as a 2.08v (115bhp) mk3 cav/cally! gotta be somethin not right with yours!

when did it last have a full service? change of plugs etc.? if it was quite a while ago it'll be worth changing the plugs (£10-£15), leads(£20-£30), rotor arm(£3-£5), distributor cap(£5-£9), air filter element (£3-£5), or a k&n air filter element(£30ish), and the oil(£10-£30) and oil filter(£2) and the vacume advance unit on the dizzy (£15ish) if it's nackered. also the red vacume pipe that goes to the front of the airbox on the cold air feed that i think u may of taken off, if you have taken it off, screw a tight fitting screw into the red vacume hose, also you might need to adjust the fueling on the carb as the airbox mods and if you get a K&N element may be causing it to be running lean (too much air) if so you will need to up the fuel a bit to compensate it. i hope you get it sorted. it's def down on power. let us know how u get on.

vacume advance unit on the dizzy, if it's nackered it'll be way down on power!
vacuum advance only works at part throttle, gives more advance when you are cruising for better mpg. total advance is governed by the centrifugal weights in the distributor. and of course static distributor position.
those tin top k+n are a minefield, what they give in extra flow is taken away with interest, from sucking in hot engine bay air. rule of thumb, every 5 degrees C is worth about 1% power. ive done tests in this sort of weather and its getting on for 40 deg C in a closed engine bay, as opposed to 6 or 7 outside. theres 3 or 4 bhp p-ssed up the wall. scale that up for the summer too !
consider also that not all mk2 astas were fitted with the 75bhp engine as found in the nova sr. theres 60bhp versions out there. this is an easy check though, on the engine block ledge (14NV is the good one)
proper rolling road tune up starts at about 70 quid round here, they go over the carb, engine and ignition with a fine tooth comb.

i didn'd say to get a bolt on (tin top) k&n because they get a lot of hot air, i said to put a k&n element in the airbox with a 4" cold air feed from the bottom of bumper straight into the front of airbox! the 14nv is 75bhp, the 60bhp one is the c14nz 1.4spi! and when i got my car is was way under powered, was about the same speed as my mk3 astra 1.4spi! i found that the vacume advance unit was nackered so replaced it and it goes like it should now! i didnt touch the dizzy! well apart from fitting the V.A.U

just spoke to my dad about this V.A.U, he has over 60 yrs mechanical experience in cars, bikes, tractors and lorries and he told me that what your saying is right and what im saying is right! dad discovered that my V.A.U was nackered, he said it was badly nackered! he said when it was tickin over it was on max vacume, sucking air all the time. he has also recomended trying another dizy, a second hand one and try as the weights in yours could be siezed up.

the 60bhp one is the c14nz 1.4spi!
gimme some credit ! the 1.4 spi was never fitted to mk2's. the 60bhp one i'm on about is the 14LV. still with a carburettor.

he said when it was tickin over it was on max vacume, sucking air all the time
vacuum is at its greatest at idle, and, depending on engine load, at its least at full throttle.
i agree if the bulb on the distributor wasnt functioning properely it would mess around with ordinary engine manners, but it wont effect out and out engine power. (i.e foot to the floor, acceleration)

im pretty sure they did put the 1.4spi in the very late mk2's j plate, and also in the astramax vans that carried on to 93ish.
