  • My Astra MK2 GTE, Brazilian model

    Hello friends! Im new here, i found this nice web site, from Oddball advertisment messages in MigWeb.

    Here are my Brazilian Astra GTE(here in Brazil is Chevrolet Kadett GSI, and only made in 8V models, here never made GTE16V).

    The former specs:

    Engine: C20NE with headworked, TB worked, vernier pulley, Mallory Promaster 64.000volts coil, DNT competition turbocharger with A/R.50 compressor and A/R.63 turbine, with 40mm trim, external high flow wastgate, working with 1 bar(14.5psi) all the time, and 1,5 bar at overboost button. Alcohol like fuel, running at 10,5:1 of CR.
    Power estimated with overboost 300+bhp.

    Gearbox: F18 external, but with F16 internal, from Vectra GLS 2.2 8V, is a wide gearbox. Get 200km/h at 6.000rpm.

    External: i don't like tunning plastics, i love standard GTE forms, only mod that i maked, is remove the central plastics of front bumper hole, and changed the wheels(in the picture are standard Kadett GSI wheels, but now, stay with steel 15" wheels, with 205/50 tires).

    Suspension: 30% harder rear springs and dumps, and 40% hard front springs and dumps. Its 40mm lower.

    Future Modes: Now my car stay in converting situation. I puting XE head in it. Much work need... the friends in Mig know all of my story to find the parts. Here in Brazil, XE engines are really rare. Maybe, my GTE will be only GTE in Brazil with C20XE engine.

    The specs of my future C20XE will be in this form long time for save money to decent(500+ bhp) turbo convertion:

    Cams: Standard C20XE cams with vernier pulleys, working with higher overlap;
    Ignition: Mallory Promaster 64.000volts coil with 8.8mm silicon accel leads;
    Exhaust: Standard XE 4x2x1 branch manifold, but end of primary pipes moded, for higher flow, and 2,5 inch downpipes, with low restrict mufflers and without CAT;
    Compressio Ratio: 12,5:1(using high CR pistons and head skimmed) running in alcohol;
    Inlet: TB worked with 3mm bigger butterfly and low restrict air filter;
    Late Coscast Head: working in ports and seats(and inlet guides too);
    ECU: I will modify the standard rev limiter, to 7.700rpm region, and i will put some degrees more in ignition timing, alcohol resists so much the detonation.

    160bhp is guarantee, because alcohol in this CR, give 8 to 12bhp in all engines here in Brazil.

    Pics(old pics, standard wheels, standard suspension, and when its stay mounted with 8V head and turbo):

    Brazilian GSI interior:

    And here the reason for remove the 8V turbo unit:

    COSCAST XE HEAD..hummmm:

    And this picture is only for see the diference of C20NE rod to C20XE rod:

    I think, in january, i will finish my XE convertion, then, i will post the actual pics of my car with 8 valves more..!

    Thanks for see my cars, and for any comments!

    Cheers,

    Matheus S. Almeida

                  Yes, the dash is diferent, more rounded.. But only 1995's(last year of Brazilian GTE) GTE that come with this dash, the formers Brazilian GTE have the same dash of british models.
                  About the fuel filler flap, yes, its standard here. And i prefer with it..

                    A little deamon known as the "Rot-Goblin" likes to chew on our cars and leave brown jagged holes which MOT testers don't like!

                        I'm sure those front foglights are different too, they look further apart than ours.

                            yeah the fogs do look further apart, they are set back in slightly too! it has base model rear quater vents not GTE ones with the circular holes! i like the dash! shame it isn't RHD! i would have one of those dashes if they made RHD's with them!

                              Yes, i think have some diferences in foglights. I thinking in remove the foglights, because its broken a lot in my car..and enter water inside..get very ugly. I don't have more patience for change the fogs light ever month.
                              There in UK made GTE without foglights, correct? are you think? the car will be ugly without fogs?

                              thats nearly as rusty as mine
