Belmont turbo

Well been coming on here for a while now and fort it was about time i started one of these.(sorry for any bad spelling:duh: )
right my first belmont was a 1.3 club which soon became a 2.0 16v which i drove for about a year and was getting abit worst for wear so decided to reshell it.
(ill see if i can find some pics of the first one.)
my second belmont was a 1.4 lx in mint condition(46K) i found to replace the first one so i put the xe in plus all the GTE bits bumpers, seats, breaks ect.
finished this one bar a few little bits and 3 days later this happend.
(6 points and revoked licence)

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/justinwilloughby/DSC00261.jpg
So third time lucky i started again. This one one was a 1.6 gl auto which i drove for about 2 months then i bought a cally turbo for the engine.
took the engine out and swaped the rolling shell for a set of connoly leather(champ seats and cards)
decided to rebuild the the c20let so its strong so i put an xe in it for now and converted it to a manul(couldn't stand the auto any longer)
this was it last summer

this is how it is at the moment

Nice car mate. I really like Belmonts.
Did you have any problems getting the LET into the Belmont shell? I'm assuming its the same as the 8v Astra which I'll be attempting to shoehorn on into sometime soon (hopefully)

yes it is the same as the 8v shell but the LET hasn't been in yet but the XE went in without any probs and looks the same.

havn't tried the door card yet as they have been modded to fit a mk1 astra so my mate will be having them when he finds a mk2 set to swap for lol then i will just keep them because i really really want a white GTE 16v:confused:
im going to take them somewhere to get my 4 door cards copied
the crash looked nasty mate. 6 points and a revoked licence? were you still in that 2 year period? what did you get done for in the end?
i had been driving about a year and a half.:duh: so i had to retake my test:mad:
i got done for careless and inconsideret driving.
i locked up on a bend slid head on in to an escort rs 2000:duh: but i dont remember beaking i think the gear box may of seized or somthing but there weren't much left of it after to prove anythink.
well i learnt my lesson anyway

An old mate of mine had a white SRi Belmont few years ago - scrapped it though :(

I like the Belmonts myself and used to have one, thought it was a great car.
Currently restoring a Opel Monza GSi, which has turned into more of a ordeal than I first thought but at least its getting there now.

08-06-2006, 03:25 AM
well its all been running sweet since sunday its holding boost but i need to turn it up a bit cus its only holding 10psi.
got my exhaust fixed they removed the center box so it now strait though to the back box:D its gives i nice quiet burble on tick over and when the boost comes in it roars :smilieseesaw: and thats just how i wanted it :applause:
the only problem im having is i cant get 6th gear :hissyfit:i no it works cus it was fine in the cailbra im just getting tired of seting up my gears now. ill give it another go tomorrow and if i still cant get it ill put all the 16v gear selecter and linkage in which is the plan anyway just not yet:duh:
Very nice matey! Some propper progress made. My Champ has never ran at more than 10psi and it was still plenty quick! You must be loving it :)

its been awhile since ive updated this so heres a quick update of whats been happening
after the rebuild all was good for a while then i got a water leak on my rad at the time i didn't have any money to get a new rad so i just kept filling it up with water for a few weeks.
then i got a new rad and replaced it the afew days later one of the core plug in the block blow a little hole and water was spaying on to the turbo.
so i took the turbo ect off and replaced thats then took it for a drive and it happened again ant the back of the block so i striped it all down areplaced them all
afew pics

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b325/justinwilloughby/Image047.jpg
and i must say what a bitch of a job doing it with the engine in the car
then all was good for a few more days untill my fan decided to stop working when i was in traffic and the temp started going up so i was reving it trying to cool it down but it wouldn't have it and it hit the red :grumpy: so i turned it off. started it back up and the temp had droped to one bar above the half way point so when home as quick as could.
after that it was ok
untill the EM light started coming on and running like a bag of shit :grumpy:
so i flashed the codes and it told me the oxygen sensor so i changed that and it was running sweet again
untill i got on the bypass where i was just cruseing in a line of traffic in 6th gear when i put my foot down just abit to catch up with the traffic it poped and started running on two :grumpy: pulled over checked every thing couldnt see anythink wrong :hissyfit: so i limped home checked erevy thing again and still no sign of anything wrong.
left it on the drive afew days went out and started it up stilll the same checked everthing again to find traces of oil in the header tank :hissyfit:
so in the next few days it will be getting striped down again :grumpy:

thats just unlucky fella...Ferriday Engineering (http://www.ferriday.co.uk/copper/copper.shtml) do a range of copper head gaskets, one of them may hold up better but other than possibly a warped head I don't know mate..
place a straight edge across the head while it's off and check for warpage cost me £25 to have 0.0007 of an inch of mine, worth checking while it's off.

Need to check the block face checked too.
Another problem could be your fuel injectors arent spraying a neat enough pattern. Have them cleaned by a decent place that can analyse the flow rates & spray pattern.
If theyre to blame, the fuel isnt burning properly & you will get hot spots where the fuel isnt reaching & potentially bore washing in the places it floods.
Just a suggestion.

haven't toched the car since i took the head off due to lack of funds so on friday i took the head to get it skimmed. went and picked it up today and they skimmed 17 thou off and told me to get the thickest gasket i could get:confused: so not really sure if they know what there talking about or not so any advice would be cool

You may need to talk to Cometic or similar for your head gasket.
It might be worth giving Courtenay's a bell too.
Taking 17thou off of it is a lot of meat, and will raise your compression ratio - something you don't want with a turbo that appears to like lunching itself.
Perhaps you have too much compression for the amount of boost you're running.

had some K1 racing leads for about a year and a half now and most had to be replaced after about 6 months because when you to remove then they just brake so as they have a lift time garentee i took them back and said i wanted a new set!! they weren't happy about that so i demanded my money back and they were even less happy about that so i ended up getting a set of these magnecore KV85 as an exchange result me thinks :D  considering the magnecores cost about 40 quid more :Banane44:

been a while since an update so ill let you all know whats been happening.
got sick of waiting for my deflex bushes so gave them one last phone call and canceled the order and to be told they have lost the molds for the mk2 bushes so they can't make any!!! so i ordered some powerflex bushes, came within two days!! :applause:
so, put it all back together, started first time! reversed off the drive, tried to go forward but the car wouldn't move, the tracking was was so far out so i had to set it myself as best i could.
tried to start it again but it just clicked! ****ing starter motor! so, got a new one.. £60, was still having the same problem so got an ignition switch too £13ish seemed okay after that though :bananajump:
anyway, about the tracking..
next day tried EVERY SINGLE garage in warwickshire trying to get the tracking done but got the same answer everywhere.. 'no. too low' :hissyfit:
got told to try a small garage in skanky part of town, and they did it! £25! :)
just reversing out of the garage and car wouldn't start, clicking again :hissyfit:
they pushed me and off i went.
anyway heres the pics:

Dont know if its the same but I had same problem with a 16v which turned out to be a combination of dodgy alternator and battery. But could well be worth double checking the earths mate (especially the chassis to box/engine).
with this bad weather you tend to get issue with batterys if they are old and shite!

had it on the road about a week now and its broke again!!!
not to bad this time tho its just melted the wires that go to the alternator
but why is what im wondering. if i replace the wire is it just gonna do it again?
what could cause it to melt? my rev counter stopped working when i could smell burning wire don't know if that would have anything to do with it tho
managed to give a few scoobs a good pasting  at the little cruse we went to and got most the way home with no alternator
but ended up getting taken home by the AA :hissyfit:

I replaced the wire the other day. the thick red one and the blue/white skinny one that go to the alt. the red one was the one that melted but the blue/white one didn't look to swift so i replaced that as well.
the red wire had been bodged with a skinnier wire to extend it so maybe that was the problem??
got plenty of good earths and the ignition switch about a week old.
and the alt is working fine now.
well if it is my battery playing up then this beast should sort it cause ive just bought one of these bad boy's
http://www.motor-world.co.uk/kroozin/show_prod.php?prod_id=8781
got it cheap to! 100 quid cause its got a little crack in the the plastic by one of the terminals
but it hasn't clicked since i replaced the alt wire so probs not needed but if i leave my stereo on for about ten mins with the engine off it wont start so hopefully with this new battery it should still start
also bought a new cam belt kit for it also got that cheap 50 pound from Defiance (member on here) cheers mate just need to buy a new water pump then ill fit it

not up dated this for a while now but ive not really done anything to it just giving it a wash and wax.
but just before PVS i had some problems with the rear mount tho ive bodged that for now until i can be bothered to take the box off or afford a diff for my other box.
ive been on holiday for 2 weeks and came back this morning to the rain and my MOT run out last week and ive got 2 split CV boots so when it stopped raining and dried up abit i set out to remove and strip the shafts down.(pics to follow)
ive got new CV boots on order for tomorrow so if the whether is good after work tomorrow ill fit the new boots. im replacing them all cause 2 are split and the other 2 don't look like they will last much longer so may aswell.

And I think you must have the best girlfriend ever to spend that much!

yea i was like(shock) when i got the diff :love-smiley-028:
i have to take the wings off because its so low they can't get the gauges on the wheels!! which is a pain in the ass but that was the only garage willing to do it if i took the wings off all the other garages just said its to low or they can't get on the ramp! in other word we can't be bothered
ive heard there are some gauges that clamp to the wheel which would be good for me but i couldn't find any where that had them :(

time for an update!!
ok today i actually did something to my car! i finished work early and was board so i decided that the drivers side rear door iv been meaning to replace with a non rusty one had been sat in my room wayyyy to long!
so i got it out.. stripped it of its manual window to replace with my leccy motors, stripped all the other bits off and gave it a good clean. then decided that the black vynel was looking old so i stripped all that off and replaced with some new stuff
put it all back together and fitted it yay no more rusty door. pics to follow
also iv been looking for a new set of MO's as one of mine is buckled and i can't find any where to straighten it! but think i might of got some just waiting to hear back from him
hopefully will do some more to it tomorrow and get some pics up
Belmont turbo
19-06-2008, 03:20 PM
i got myself another set of MO's and fitted my side skirts properly just before pvs and it was looking pretty good.. but then as usual 1 step forward 5 steps back it decided to set itself on fire!
see this thread about the fire

so the engine bay is stripped down again and is a bit of a mess but not that much is damaged really. the loom has a few melted wires and pugs but can be selvaged the magnecors seem to be a bit singed but look to be ok. but the whole engine bay needs a good clean as most of its black/brown/yellowish colour
pics to follow later.

been out pulling all the melted stater/alt loom out and replacing it with some nice new stuff. just about finished with that bit now.
the cam cover is no longer white its sort of yellow now lol but that will have to stay like that for a while cus im skint
the rest of the bay and the underside of the bonnet need a good clean ive given the a quick wipe and most of seems to come off but i think i will have to polish it to get it back to how it was! but im not to bothered because after the show season im planning on dropping the engine out and getting the bey stitch welded and a new coat of paint
also had to replace the plastic pipe that goes from the brake servo to the inlet manifold but i had a spare in my shed.
its still a mess but its alot better than it was!

hopefully you also saw the bit about not drilling it too big, or idle will increase!!
i think as standard it must reduce drastically inside, around the nut section. most likely why it mucks up.
engine bay is coming along really well, it looks like the sort of crap that will come off with de-greaser and a scrub

wow its been a long time since i updated this!
right so whats been happening is my bodged engine was deteriorating fast lol started smoking felt a bit flat them water started mixing with the oil so i took it apart again lol and its just been sat on my drive for about 3/4 months feeling sorry for its self and gettiing rained on alot :(
but things should start moving again soon i hope! im going to drop the rest of the engine out strip it down to a bare block and get my forge pistons steel rods and under piston oil squirters fitted and the crank checked ect.
then after thats been done get some head work done.
also while this is being done the engine bay is going to get a freshen up to im going to to stitch weld it strengthen the bulk head and lower cross member then give it a fresh layer of white paint because after the fire its not really white under there any more lol
so thats my plans for the car this year theirs probs loads more thing that ive forgotten but thats the main things and this should start getting updated regularly again
How many engines is that? I've had 5 in mine so far including the original XE
Belmont turbo
11-01-2009, 05:30 PM

er i had considered giving it a freshen up, i want to sort out some rusty bolts underneath the car. but it can wait till my garage is built, batt in the boot a good idea mate, if i was doing it i would also hide the air flow meter and filter under the drivers side wing, just for the minimal look. pcs is on then, looks like mk2's will be flying the flag

lets just say they are rubbish, at work every time we have a customer complaining about an alarm problem its a shitford, ask any one i work with chris, they will all tell you the same, i have had cobra cat alarms on all of my cars. never had any problems with any of them, and i can hand on heart say we have never had any problems with the cobra stuff at work either,

Love this thread, the effort put into this car is amazing! Especially as all the work seems to be done on your drive with axle stands. I thought I was the only poor bugger not to have access to a garage with a pit or ramps. Truly inspiring.
Can I ask you what pistons you have there? They look exactly like mine - mine are standard forged mahle ones but I think someone has machined the tops of them at some point to lower the cr (no swirl pot). Trouble is one of them has got mangled and rather than buy a complete set I want to just replace the one. Have you had this done or are they aftermarket ones?

been a while since ive up dated this been on the road nearly a year now and ive done 1200 miles shame on me lol
but i have had a few turbo problems.. well my "K26" turbo i was sold with the engine is not a k26 its just a standard k16 thats probs why its now ****ed lol didn't like a few years at 20 psi..
but i stripped it down and rebuilt it with a ebay kit and it still smoked so took it back off and stripped it down again along with another turbo to make one good one out of two when i pu this on it smoked like nothing i have ever seen before it just covered the hole road in thick smoke so took it of in a bad mood chucked it in the shed and borrowed a turbo off a mate. the other day i got it back out the shed and stripped it down again and i had only for got to put an oil seal back on the shaft lmao :banghead:
so got another turbo stripped both down and made another and guess what it don't smoke!!! so the cars back on the road cus i had to give my mate his turbo back a couple of weeks ago so will get to pvs
also im going the evo manifold and turbo rout soon iv bought myself a evo 6 turbo with race roller bearing just gotta buy a manifold probs be next month now cus it was the misses birthday a couple of days ago

nice build, jw thought why dont you sell the td05h youve got of an evo and use the td0516g impreza's use, i used one on a starlet i had.Or use the turbo im going to use on my belmont, a gt35?
Belmont turbo
09-09-2010, 11:12 PM
the main reason im using the evo stuff is you can buy a tubular manifold for 100 quid! and all the exhaust ports near enough match straight up to a LET flange and its a td05 16g so same turbo scoobys use i think. so just a very cheap way to get rid of the crappy K16s and evos get good reliable power from them
ive got the manifold now i just need to pull my finger out and get it all fitted but it comes off the road for the winter at the end of the month so will do it over winter now

down pipe shouldn't be a problem as it will just go strait down under the sump. air flow needs to be extended to the other side but thats no trouble as the batteries already in the boot. water and oil feeds/returns easy oil feed goes strait on.

Where do you keep finding them lol get a build thread started! not much to update really it just sits in the garage now and just gets taken out for a blast every now and then..
passed its MOT first time at the beginning of April with just a few advisories which was good lol. I do need to pull my finger out and get that turbo fitted tho.

I had rear elec windows in my old 4 door Astra mk2 hatch, they came out of a Cav mk2 as did the 4-way switch and they fitted straight in without any mods.
