Looking good and I wish you luck m8! I always fancied an astra with a gsi 3000 engine but I realised it would never fit!
If I where you I would just have a rear wheel drive with a turbo lump in there :D

So would i, but 4x4 is easier (!?) i think.

What will you be using to distribute power the rear wheels? The cav/cali 4x4 turbo transfer box? They are pretty fragile :/

Yep the tx box is pretty weak but what choice (realistically) do i have? I have herd a million discussions on this subject and they all say " use fiat pander 4x4 or cosworth 4x4 or lancia 4x4"! Trouble is the cost may rise and i cant be arsed with spending loads on a 50 quid Astra!!
I have locked the box and so done away with any hydraulics so should be a little bit more reliable...maybe.....

well you could look at it that way but if the transfer box keeps breaking then it could work out cheaper to use a cossie/pander/lancia box. But I think you should be ok with the cali/cav turbo box since it won't have to handle 200+ bhp so it should take alot more punishment at 150(ish) bhp.

Turbo and phase 3 im afraid!!

lol well I think you should definately invest in another transfer box because sooner or later the astra is gonna be 2wd :(
another thing to take into consideration is that a turbo 4x4 mk2 doesnt have to carry as much weight around as a cav/cali so that may help the box live a "LITTLE" longer :p

I hear ya and am expecting a plethora of shited boxes within a week! Still should be fun for a little while...You are right about the weight though, and i am crossing various parts of my body in the hope that it will allow the box to last longer

Awesome project! :D Good luck with it man!
It must be a tough decision though... 4x4 running gear, or double engine! :) lol...

Cheers! Twin engine would be maybe heavier? Certainly more effort to do. I have the arse end all on now (cheers to c20letmini from mig for the bits) Also the prop is on and the car is on all four wheels. Only sills and arches to do....
more pics soon

How long have you been on it so far?
What you doing about the exhaust since the prop dhaft is in the arch?

about 35 hours work in total over two months. The exhaust will be positioned in the same place as the other 4x4 cars=next to the prop but hanging out a little at the front end. Should be pretty neat when finished. I may use a 3 inch pipe and this will be a bugger to fit.

wonder how hard a twin let conversion would be? 600 bhp anyone?

Like the twin LET mental nova! That thing is nuts... the guy said to me it took about 3 months to do, and he employed about 6 people to do it! lol... But he's left with a fappin ace motor!

Looks good Ajrat. You still got the car or is it in the scrap yard in the sky now? Unfortunately I still have not heard from the bloke about the green 4x4 astra. As soon as I do I shall let you know about it.
Hope you decide to keep this project going fella, it looks dam good.
