Well, as you may have read, I have a lot of plans for the coming winterperiod with my Astra. :)
In short:
- welding engine bay
- quickrak
- lower suspension
- 2.2 or 2.3 bottom end (tuned and renewed)
- maybe other cams
- Alu flywheel
- ultralight crankshaft
- stutbrace
- reprogramming DTA
- new head and rear lights
- some other things...
Last week I removed the engine, step 1 :D
http://www.home.zonnet.nl/xedrah/kadett/01winter2004.jpg
This week I'm working on the engine bay and I will disassemble the 20XE engine tomorrow.
http://tinypic.com/eijpx
The crankshaft is ready, only needs to be balanced in combination with the new flywheel. So that's on hold.

How much have you lightened the crank by ? Looks very impressive ! :)

Thanks all of you. :)
I do a lot of things myself, but I also have a lot of help of someone with many, many years of experience. He is the owner of a tuning company. FCG Engineering, see http://www.freddycane.com He has abused dozens (?) of crankshafts this way. :D
The crank was originally about 18,5 kilo's, now it's a bit less than 13 kilo's. At this moment I have more or less the same crank in my Nova 2.0 16V. I revs like a beast and idless perfectly.

Ow, ow. I've had a bit painfull weekend. LOL
I planned to use my old 20XE pistons for my new 2.2 engine. But as I found out this weekend, the're worn to much. That means that I need new pistons. :(
Costs a lot of money...
To do it right, I ordered 88mm DTM pistons. It 'll be a 2.4 liter engine then. :D
It's a bit of a shock, because I didn't plan these expenses, but on the other side: it has some advantages. :p
Rob_S

That 'll be 2044,9 cc if I'm correct.
My pistons are "tailor or custom made". (if that's the right expression  ) ;)

one thing tho an over bore of 300cc!!!! won't that weaken the block alot?

its obviously had an over bore of 1mm, mine is overbored to 87mm which takes it to 2044cc, if i had it taken to 88mm it would be 2098cc;)
what rods and crank you using then?
Xedrah
05-12-2004, 01:02 AM

The Corsa 1.2 was a wintercar for me when working on the Astra. After a short period of time I thought it was too slow. So I decided to put a 2.0 8V engine in it and bolt a turbo onto it. After 6 months driving in the Nova 2.0 8V, I started with this Astra project so the turboplans were on hold. Then suddenly I got it in my mind to buy a 20XE engine cheaply and put that in the Nova. That has been 2 months ago now aprox. And still working on the Astra ofcourse. Maybe next year a turbo on the 20XE nova then. :D
Next to the Astra and the Nova I have an Omega V6 as a daily driver. Mainly for my girlfriend by the way. :p

Not sure of the 1/8 mile times of the Nova. This was the first time I've done the 1/8 with the Nova in this set-up and time recording sucks big time. No sensor at the startline, just a green light as a signal. That means no reliable time recording ofcourse.

I've driven the first 60 miles without any problems. I've made a few adjustments in the DTA program. I will have to wait for the new Z20LET injectors I've ordered before I can give max throttle. And ofcourse first a rolling road check up and programming.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures and updates so far.

Hi guys!
Still driving in the Astra ofcourse. Had some problems with the MOT, but that's all ok now. The car is not completely programmed on full throttle yet, but believe me; it's flying. 140 km/u is just walking speed. 180 km/u is nothing really. I'm sure I will hit the rev limiter in the fifth gear. It's really really fast. The first 1000 km's have passed.
Keep u updated. Soon some new pics. ;)

Looks good mate - you've done a good job on that sound deadening! BTW is that fire extinguisher is a powder one? If so it should be mounted upright because when mounted on it's side, the powder settles along the length of the bottle. If you ever need to use it, you could find that it doesn't work. It happens a lot.

It is fast indeed. First quartermile results hopefully on the 28th of July on the dragstrip in Drachten. I killed severall 'fast' cars like; M3 E36, new E Merc AMG, 147 GTA, Impreza WRX 280, BMW 330d, Corvette 5.7. I hope to get some good results with the special dragrace tires because the first gear is pretty useless at the moment.

Xendrah... by looking at the tire marks...
you need to get some air out of them... so you can get them working properly.
but its ok for you to do some burnouts on them with a high pressure so you can peel off the old thread of the tyre.
with your setup you should be looking for very low 12s, how knows maybe an 11 ;)
Efrain A.
27-07-2006, 07:31 PM
those are 26.5 x 8 x 15?
Xedrah
27-07-2006, 07:47 PM
I have to deflate them a bit, I know. Pressure is now 1,1 bar and should be somewhat lower. I can have about 0,5 cm more grip.
Not so sure about that low 12's... I've pretty mild cams and the track is not prepared...
Pretty good observation btw, they're 26.5 x 8.5 x 15. ;-)
Efrain A.
27-07-2006, 08:16 PM
well if you have over 220whp you will make 12.5 or lower.
we have some NA hondas CRX's 2.0 and 1.8 VTECs with about 200whp doing 12.8-13.0 on drag radials. some have touched the 12.6-12.7 mark on slicks.
i think you should do fine with 0,65 bar on those tyres.
