Hey, as many of you will have read i'm on the look out for another gte. Now recently a member on here (--ToM--) mentioned that his car was advertised for sale on mig. I read through the advert and contacted him. We exchanged emails back and forth and he also told me it was on swapz aswell and asked if i was definately interested, he told me the price and rather than haggle, i agreed. I did my homework and asked a previous owner some info. Anyway, me and tom spoke and my plan was to go accross on sun to look at and hopefully buy. Now for this i went out and got a bank loan as i'd decided it was the car for me, i also took out insurance on said car and asked a mate to not plan anything for sun as he would need to drive. Now me and tom exchanged msgs at around 5 yesterday, after which i got the insurance on it. However 3 hours later while i was out at tea with the other half i got a txt off tom to say he no longer wanted to sell the car. Now to say i was less than impressed is an understatement. I'm not going to act all childish about it, i'm sure he has his reasons, however i dont really think he thought through the hassle i had gone to not to mention the fact i've had to pay an instalment of insurance that i cant get back. I just want to warn ppl really that this member is not the most reliable seller. It slightly disheartens me as i've never been this messed around like this before. I'd rather have bought the car and it be rubbish than this.

If anyone see's wrong in my rant feel free to voice your opinions.

I agree in a way .... but not in another ....

TBH you should have viewed the car before insuring it, then if you wanted it you could have either insured it with a phone call and driven it away or left a deposit to secure it.

The way you went about it the car was Toms and as such he could do as he wished right up until any change of ownership.

Yes, you may have been messed about, and I agree that sucks ... but then you didn't really help yourself to prevent it.
It certainly isn't Toms responsibility to cover your costs or losses ... that was your doing.

Cheers bud. The missus did suggest that but to be honest i'd rather just forget it. Maybe he'll change his mind before i cancel it, haha. But its good to know my complaint is justified.

that is a fair point, in my defence the only reason i insured it was because the place is closed sunday and it was the cheapest. And the reason for not leaving a deposit was because its quite a trek there and back and i believed the info i'd been given on the car was honest and i believe it to be a good un, but as i say, i dont consider it toms responsibility for the loss, just advertising a car he didnt want to sell and leaving it till the last minute.

Just bad luck he had the right to change his mind but in your defense I think that he should have considered what inconvenience it was to you especially financially - I hope he also removes ALL his adverts asking 3.5k for it from all places as nobody wants to be messed about again - so any current for sale or I'm selling it needs closing on here until he's 100% selling it for real.

In the meantime I strongly suggest you check this out with Simon -Fully Restored with mint engine - Great car worth every Penny!

im not replying with anything in my defence as i understand entirely where your coming from if it was me id be exactly the same i do feel guilty and i nearly didnt text u i was just going to let it go to save the bother and giving myself a bad rep but i just couldnt let it go, i put it up for sale as an out of interest thing and because due to moving house and no longer having anywhere to keep it it had to go but now my circumstances have changed (literally a hour before i text you to be precise) i am able to keep hold of it as my boss is going to store it for me, as i said i was still going to let you come and hope you hated it and didnt buy it lol but i knew that wouldnt happen so i pulled out, i didnt realise the extent you had gone to with insurance etc and all i can say is i am sorry, if i do decide to actually get rid of it in the future (not that youll want it now) you have 1st refusal at the price we agreed, unless i c20let it......

I don't think anyone can argue with any of that can they. That's really good of you to come on and say that Tom to be fair.

                      He'll find another.

Can you not cancel your insurance (14 day 'cooling off period') and get your instalment back minus their 'admin' charge? obviously you won't get all your money back but still.

I understand where your coming from bud, i had the same reasons for selling the mattig but if circumstances had changed i'd have kept it. As i said your a probably a decent guy, i was just venting. I would still buy it if you changed your mind as its kinda the 1 i had set my sights on, reminds of my 1st venture in to gte ownership (only better). I dont wish to fall out with anyone, i've calmed down now and i appreciate the position you were in.

Completely agree bud, dont want to cause bad vibes or anything, was just frustrated. And as for finding another, i'm unsure as to what road i'm going to go down now, as i have a wad of money burning a hole in my drawer, and now when i look at the let i think that could add even more money to the pot and just buy something different altogether.

The other thing to take into account with the "money burning a hole in your pocket" is if it is a bank loan is there no way of returning that money as well? At least until you find what you want? You are only paying interest on it at the moment.

As per the insurance, I am sure there is a cooling off period minus a small fee in the first fortnight.

                              All is not lost.
