In July last year it was looking like this;

As of an hour ago its looking like this;
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Gander/Kadett/fronton.jpg

Quite a difference!
When the engine blew it forced my hand to get everything sorted out, especialy as the shell will be home to an uprated LET. This is an ongoing battle to make the shell sound, the most recent welding I've had done includes plating (bothsides) of the wishbone mounts as the welds had started to seperate and rot had gotten in.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Gander/Kadett/rearwishbright.jpg

and getting the engine bay and suspension areas seam welded and primed;

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Gander/Kadett/seamedturret2.jpg

Here's a pic of the other side, yet to be wire brushed and primed; (check out the name of the primer!:p)

Unfortunately during my rampant grinding I've found some more rot which I've raked out and now need to get the welder back in to plate the area:(
Good old Kadett, because its worth it!

More pics when I've done noticably more! lol:o

lol You don't know how lucky you are!
Even in that reasonably enclosed space it has gotten wet thanks to the driving rain and gale force winds we've been having!

I'm cracking on with it though and it should be in the bodyshop soon enough!

this is the type of work I would like to do! complete strip and re-spray. Do all the panels just bolt on and off?

Gander
25-10-2004, 04:37 PM
The front wings are bolt-on/off, there's the line of 10mm bolts along the top, 2 at the front below the front indicator area, One at the bottom of the wing, down by the sill and one on the A pillar which you'll be able to see when you open the doors.

I'm off to a local body shop on thursday so I'll be able to get a ball park figure for the cost of the respray, I have already warned my wallet so hopefully it wont die of shock!

whats happening to the let , uprating-wise?

Gander
26-10-2004, 05:19 PM
Remus the whole rear 1/4 is a welded in panel, you'll need to plasma cut/grind off the panel and weld in a whole new piece!

whats happening to the let , uprating-wise?
It's at a local race engine builders having amongst other things a rebore, forged pistons headwork and hybrid turbo :)

Thanks to the lack of engine, It got the VIP treatment, it'll be the quickest its gone in 10 months! :p

Well I've dredged this post back up for an update.
It's a lot further along now and I'll be posting some pics of the various jobs I have to do on it; Quick rack, suspension, brakes to name but a few:o

These pics were taken while it was at the bodyshop, I had more but XP and I have a hate hate relasionship and it lost some more pics for me:(

The car is back from the bodyshop but I'm going to wait till its all back together for a proper load of body pics.
Check back soon to see my begin the unenviable task of putting back all the bits I've taken off and lost:p

I can't remember the name of the kit, it was a red thing posted a while back but I am loving it so far Gander, there are way to many GTE's in standard trim.

You are going to need some new alloys as well though me thinks ;)

I wrapped up nice and warm today and got on with putting all the gubbery back in to the doors, I started with some sound proofing which is lighter than it looks:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Gander/Kadett/doorproofweb.jpg

And then on to the fiddely job of putting all the rods back in for the door handle and locking mechanism. The end result looking like this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Gander/Kadett/cavandleweb.jpg

While I had the camera out I thought I'd snap the suspension...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v383/Gander/Kadett/suspensionweb.jpg

and quickrack too :)

Didnt think the spoiler would work but top choice there matey - the car looks sweet - and the engine sounds as if it will match the styling mate - bloody mental. What is the expected power? Or at least what you are aiming for? Or is that a Gander only secret...?

lol loads of Q's...
The engine has a number of improvements over standard, Hybrid Turbo, balanced, ported, polished, steel rods, knife edged crank, etc, etc. Power: ???
The bodyshop bill was a lot but then a lot of the stuff had to be modified and adjusted to fit other stuff in and around it.
The fogs etc will be modular units, which reminds me that i should get on with them :s
ETA is this coming spring I hope, all I need to do is pull my finger out really.
I'm dead chuffed at how the powdercoating turned out, all the fuel pump bits have been coated too, I'll have to get a pic up of that.
And finally the kit is a mix of stuff I've amassed, Irmscher Skirts, PLR front bumper and rear skirt and scooby spoiler.

Hope that cleanly wraps things up ;)

Looks great ! :D

What are the door handles off ?

Gander

Looks great ! :D

What are the door handles off ?

They are Cav handles, about an inch of metal all the way round the Cav door handle is taken from the Cav door and the Spotted in to the Kadetts door which has also had the corresponding metal removed.

For a good welder fabricator it should take about 3 hours to do with little or no warping of the skin.
