  • The Astra Mk4(s) Diary...Now with 888 no 60

Finally sorted another car. The choices were Astra coupe turbo and SRi190...in the end the 190 was the way forward. Normally I wouldn't go anywhere near a black car but as they only did 3 colours in the these (Red, silver 7 black) it's the best colour...red is likely to go pink and silver just looks plain dull

The body is in good condition with no chunks missing, just needs a few cosmetic bits but nothing major. Needs a few bits under the bonnet though as it developed an intermittent misfire and seems to be over fueling. It's got a cool running thermostat fitted and the temp gauge barely moves, especially how cold it's been today...first job is replace that, check the plug gaps etc and see if it helps.

Other than that it pulls really well and seeing as it just looks just like a normal SRi gives no clues to whats under the bonnet

Nice. Get some snowflakes on there or change the wheel colour perhaps. White doesn't suit that design of alloy imo. Smart looking car though and hopefully a bit more reliability day-to-day.

Looks good Baz, Had never heard of the 190 before! My boy bought a Coupe this wk seems a reasonable car for what he paid for it.

Lot of car for the money and cheaper to insure than a mk3 GSi ecotec. It's nice to drive and has plenty of toys inside...a nice alternative to a stripped out GTE

Looks tidy, so what are the differences between this and a coupe turbo?

Personal preference more than anything, performance there's nothing in it apart from the coupe being a bit heavier. This one came up for sale and had already had the stem seals and turbos replaced which seem to be a weak area on Z20LETs. The turbo is also a VXR turbo and still under warranty as it was replaced in Feb this year. Need to do a bit of homework to see what's so good compared to the standard turbo but either way it's one less thing to worry about

I'm sure the coupe is heavier than the estate, which is abit of mind bender..

I'm not really upto speed on mk4's, why are they heavier?

Just a bit longer than the hatch, think its 20kg more something like that...not a massive amount.

Got loads of small jobs to do on it, going to have a few hours on it today, see how long that to do is going to get.

                          Re: Astra Mk4 SRi190

just aswell the turbo has been done already as the standard zlet one is utter crap tbh i blew 2 sets of oil seals in one year then got the vxr unit fitted never had bother after that

in standard form they are not a quick car but the big plus with the z20let is that they are home mapable and one of your first mods should be a whiteline rear anti roll bar it was the best thing i fitted to mine

above is the tool for doing the job i have a copy of a genuine eds stage one and 3 map if you want a copy i can email it to you

look on youtube if you plan on doing this as there are plenty of good guides

                            Cheers

Going to ring Courtney tomorrow as they've supposed to have mapped it already, just need to find out exactly what they've done (if anything) to the car. No closer to fixing the misfire as every time I go near it it starts pissing it down. Took it it for a run to see if I could work out exactly where it was missing but it seems to be intermittent...it does seem to light up the traction control/stability light and turn the traction control off

Was the SRi turbo the one with the GSi engine, but made before the GSi came out? Or am i just being a retard?

Looks a good little car though mate!
