Have a look at my baby.

http://www.teamdangerous.com

Now THAT's a Belmont with a 16v engine (two valves per cylinder).
6.6Litres of Chevrolet, driving through a 4 speed Muncie M21 gearbox, and a Strange (Ford) 9" rear axle.

There is no substitute for cubic inches. Trust me!

Why won't you race me?

No, it's not a handfull (much).

Someone said, before I took it to Snetterton for it's first proper test, that they've done up the toilets at the circuit ready for me 'cos I would probably s..t myself with so much more power than I had been used to.

My reply : no problem, but hasn't the circuit shrunk! I'm sure the Revitt straight was more than 200yds long!! (that's how long it seemed!).

According to my roadangel, with sticky rear brakes, running on 7, and having a lousy entry into Sear corner (before the straight) in 1st gear, it still pulled just shy of 170 (167 to be exact) before I braked early for the Esses as the rears were doing all of the work.

For those that are interested, it will be running in the Dunlop BARC-SE Track & Race Cars series next year, and maybe the Dunlop V8 Supercar Challenge which is part of the Britcar package.

As you can see, it's running Mk3 lights, even though it's a Mk2 (Astra-Belmont B) shell.

I'll post a few more pics later..

Rob.

I'm toying with a new engine. This one is 403ci, and I've been offered a new Brodix 415ci which is 6802cc. My engine builder says that my current block is OK for 428ci (7014cc), though I'd need a new oil pan (Sump) to account for a longer stroke crank.

There IS no substitute for cubic inches.

Since it's halloween, time to resurrect this thread!

Jon S - there were two Calibra's built, both run by Bill Shepherd in Thundersaloons. The first was built by Pilbeam. The second by Bill's outfit themselves.

The original shell now belongs to a friend of mine who's helped me a bit over the last year, a chap called Jon Mann, who is steadily rebuilding it.

The second shell is now the car that Ric Wood raced in Formula Saloons, and from time to time in the BARC North Western Sports & Saloons. More info on that : http://www.ricwood.com.

As for how quick is mine down the drag strip? Don't know. Might have to see one day. I'm more interested in doing 58second laps of the Silverstone National Circuit (BTCC do 60's).

Rob.

Rob, do you recall the Mk2 built with a BTCC engine and some F3000 running gear?

Was pictured in white in a Track and Race mag article a couple of years ago.

Somebody asked me about this one before. I remember the Mk1 with Manta 400 running gear, and there was someone running a Mk2, but I can't recall what it had in it.

Towards the end of Thundersaloons, there were some exotic machines being built - Jason Dell's Merc 190E had a F1 Powerboat engine in it (and was pants!), Stewart Morton's Escort Cosworth (sort of) had a Chevy up front and a F3000 transaxle, Stuart Donnan's Sierra had Quaife 4x4 running gear with a 2.4 740bhp Cosworth, all built by Empress at Chatteris. Then there was Mick Quaife's Escort Cossie with his own gear under it, Matthew Mortlock's Escort Cossie which was a F3000 transaxle job IIRC.
