I know you say it is 4x4, and that`s a good thing, when it works..... The 4x4 system is really fragile and expensive to fix! And the 4x4 system is about 70 % front drive and the rest to the rear wheels. Not so fun to drive with. I had a few 4x4 Vectra`s(Cavalier) but never ever again.

Besides, your Astra looks much nicer than the Calibra, and is overall a better car, just my 2 cents...

I prefer the Astra. That said, the Calibra isn't a bad car at all, and doesn't deserve the stick it gets (nor the number which are ripped apart for their running gear). They're certainly more comfortable at high speed, nicer for cruising and rather better built than a Mk2 as well, so it depends if you rack up the miles on the motorway or not...

fair comments from dario. but i'd discount it purely because its a calibra, they just dont float my boat regardless of engine or drivetrain. i think gte is infinitely more cooler, more desirable, more unique, more fun to drive. in 20 years i dont think people are gonna be kicking back fondly reminiscing about their calibra 4x4. dull as ditchwater to drive without a phase kit or two.

Astra, I would say that after all, I cam back to mine after owning quite a few other cars ...

The Calibra can only be more complicated, so break down more, more expensive to repair and run.

Doubt it would be as much fun to drive as the Astra either.

Astra everytime mate, i had a calibra turbo & a V6 one inbetween owning my GTE's and i would never have another Calibra, fair enough its a rare LE version, but when your driving down the high street its hardly going to turn heads, Your GTE will snap necks of people wanting a 2nd look at it as you drive past

              Re: Decisions Decisions

When my Astra was delivered and plonked on the drive the other week a local girl of just 16yrs came over and, well these are her words "Wow, is that a 16Ver, I love those, cool are you doing it up?" Now remember this is a very rusty 22yr old car, not a shiny clean Vectra and she's 16. How on earth did she know what it was? Totally took me buy surprise she did.

If it was a Vectra she would probably have not even noticed it !!

              That's true BTW,

I know what you mean mate, my NINE year old son keeps telling his mates (of the same age) that his dad (me) drives an Astra GTE 16v & a mk3 cabby lol

Simon every time youve sold an Astra its only been a matter of minutes before you get another. Think of all the money you have invested in all your Astras just to get rid and start again. What did you make of the Cav turbo you had because ive had a LET Calibra and they dont drive as nice as the Cavaliers.
But i do like the look of that Calibra.

                    Re: Decisions Decisions

That's a hard one Simon as I love both out Astra mk2's and our Calibra SE9 (2.5 V6). The Calibra is totally not what we expected when we bought it back in Sept last year. Amanda and I only intended on keeping for 6 months but it's now part of the fleet and we both love it to bits. It's an easy car to work on much like the mk2 and cracking to drive. If it were me I would have to say go for the swap but make sure you test everything and have a good look round, under and in the calibra to check it's as good as it looks. You have spent a lot of time, effort and money on the mk2 but your obviously not totally smitten with it otherwise the tought wouldn't of even popped into your head nor would you of posted it on here asking the question.

                          Nail and head.

Unless of course Simon only likes have a Mk2 Astra Project and once its done its boring.

I'm the oposite - I like a Mk2 astra working which is one of the reasons why I bought my current one.

That Calibra is looks a bit tasty, but it's no Mk2 Astra is it?

Why not just buy a LET engine and stick it in the astra job done best of both worlds lol
