Shocking! It's not like it's been performance enhancing either.

This cost is just keeping it on the road. I have done about 40,000 miles in it since i bought it.

Works out to be about 5p per mile.

I have a fist full of receipts for this car.

I'm getting a new mobile next week that takes better quality pics so i will put more up when i get it.

Lol its going to be White and Red GTE's that are the rare ones on here soon:p

At 5p a mile I think thats bloody good going, the car is 13 years old and I bet it still goes like a rocket! Theres a good deal of new cars that go slower, don't (imho) look as good as the GTE and will cost a darn sight more than 5p a mile in parts and servicing!
Assuming you dont do the work yourself, then £500 of the total could be labour!

The car looks great and aslong as you enjoy the Mk2 driving experience then to hell with the cost!:D

i think red will defo be the rare ones on here because most of them will have turned pink! i have beeten a lot of moddern cars in races, even through corners! upto 2.0petrols and 2.2derv's in my 1.4! moddern cars weigh to much! older cars are a hell of a lot easier and cheaper to work on too! not as many crap electrical sensors etc. to go wrong!

Brought a Genuine GM exhaust pipe from Cat replacement to rear silencer plus clamps £38.40 on 17/01/05.

The exhaust is now genuine GM from the manifold right through to the back box.

I should have taken a photo before it was fitted, but i didn't

a nice interesting thread there! and by the looks of it a lovely std example of astraness

i think its good how the regular little bits of cash don't really add up to much. thats one of the reason that i love the mk2's

have you been doing most of the service etc urself?

agree wiv steve, newer cars do seem to weight too much, and seem to be made increasingly sluggish on some of the respectably sized engine models (2ltr+) in order to drive up the cost of the high bhp models (st170's, clio 172's, zr180's etc etc etc) that may just be fitted with a differently mapped ECU.

Sorry don't have any spare parts in this colour. I will let you know if i ever end up with any. The guy on ebay is sending the wing via a courier. When the item arrives, depending on it's condition, i will let you know.

My dad works for a company who make parts for GM, so i get quite a hefty discount. About 1/3 off, which means that the real price of the parts that i have put on my car is nearer.....£2700!!!!!??!!!!

Bought some of these on e-bay. There pretty good tbh, well they beat the warped ones hands down. It has changed stopping in the thing.

I fitted them around the 30th October, they cost £41 + £14 delivery.

http://img348.imageshack.us/img348/4950/fc1b3yl.th.jpg (http://img348.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fc1b3yl.jpg)

The wing is now fitted but without the trim. I need to clean the old sticky tape off off the old piece of old trim and fit it with new tape. Im waiting for the weather to be nicer.

I cleaned up the ICV (idle control valve) around 30th October, it has also made such a difference to the car. It is so much happier when idling now. I really recommend it.

Just bought these drive shafts off e-bay. Cost £1. The CV joint on the drivers side is making a knocking noise under load and the ABS ring on the passenger side has a step in it.

http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/2102/a91b4dy.th.jpg (http://img295.imageshack.us/my.php?image=a91b4dy.jpg)

I managed to pick up some other bits whilst i was there. Parts which include:

2.0 16v ECU
ATE Calipers
Purple wing mirrors, Immaculate
Headlamp washer bottle and pump
Purple drivers side wing (watch this space)

I'm going to service the calipers, and straigten the old GM discs i have before putting the whole lot on e-bay to ensure there are no nasty suprise's for anyone.

I'm going to get some prices together to get the wing resprayed, then i will fit that.

Cost per mile is still £0.05 in maintainence.

Including the purchase price of the car it's cost £88 per month since i bought it.

The car is in great condition, it has new brakes, new exhaust, new tyres (fingers crossed) it should be ok for a while now and shouldn't need much money putting into it.

It's MOT is due in March, im not looking forward to that, it still needs a new windscreen but i've had a good recommendation on here of £65 from a local firm. I've still got there details so that will be done in March!

Neil
05-03-2006, 03:32 PM
Right it's now march so i've fitted a new screen, a new front number plate and refitted the trim on the front wing.

http://img355.imageshack.us/img355/1928/dsc001657bq.th.jpg (http://img355.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc001657bq.jpg)

New Screen £79.90
New front number plate £8.95

The MOT is due next Saturday so it's going in this Friday. Fingers crossed it will pass.

Ben K

did it pass ??????

Neil
18-03-2006, 03:12 PM
Yes, thankfully it did. I'm well chuffed. It's inspired me to get the bodywork done.

I wanna do it but i need to find somewhere for a good price.

I've had a quotation for the arches and the cills based on e-mailed pictures of about £1500!! That just seems to expensive for me. The roof needs a respray because the lacure is coming off badly and i also have a wing that needs spreaying and fitting.
I think if someone offered to do the arches, cills, roof and wing for £1500 i would do it.

There was someone on here who was based in the buckingham area which is close, he also needed his arches doing also so i'm hoping we can get together and find a competative priced place round here to get it done.
I think i will wait until summer when i can leave the car somewhere for a week and ride my motorbike whilst the work is being done. I'm prepared to travel and leave it somewhere i just need to find a good priced garage.

Any suggestions anyone??

My local bodyshop only wanted £1,500 to remove 1/4 panels, sills, wings, front panel & bonnet & re-fit with brand new ones (that i bought) & do the full respray inside & out in a different colour to what it origionally was

i would say about £300-350 per side is reasonable for what you want done, dont pay more than that

Neil

I wish i lived nearer newcastle. Bedfordshire is shite for bodyshops. People just seem to wanna rip you off.

Cheers, i nearly put my car on flea bay this afternoon but decided to get the rust done instead.

Here is the detail on the best price i have had so far:

Thank you for the extra information provided. We have completed an estimate as requested, I could post it out to you if you provide your home address. We feel that we could fit wheel arch repair panels rather than replace the whole quarters, to do both sides would be £564.74 plus vat.

The price was for the wheel arches. If we are replacing the complete Sill's as well, the Sill's are £41.60 each, the labour charge for replacing and painting them would be £550, with the cost of the paint and material's you are looking at another £700+vat.

So i make the total near £1500 and that doesn't include the roof or the wing thats in my garage. The garage is in Biggleswade it's probably closer for me than for you but if i remember correctly you work in Eaton Socon don't you???

I only e-mailed some random garages a little while back. I will try and find some more to see if i can get some more prices. Let me know if you have any luck.
