Came to a grinding halt as the bloke at the garage decided it was going to cost a fortune to replace all the bits that needed welding.
I said I have a grand in cash in my back pocket but he didn't want to do it.. so... I ask ya.... off to college to learn how to weld then...
This could be a long post...

Blimey, what needs doing? Maybe you should have taken it to a bodyshop rather than a garage, as they tend to be more into their welding and panel work, and would probably make a better job of it as well as being more likely to do it.

Having seen the car I recommend you use a reputable bodyshop for the work, get a few quotes mate, ask around etc..
Otherwise get the panel work done by a mate or something and get a bodyshop to spray it perhaps??
Didn't the 'drunken' offer go ahead then?

Unfortunately it was a proper coachworks that I took the car too, I think he was just to busy with an insurance company contract he has to do the work required! But nevermind, I think I have a solution to the problem, my girlfriend was at work today and was talking about the whole situation with our boss, who has it turns out is a diamond at welding!
So he will do the bodywork that needs welding and then when complete I'll get it in to a damn fine resprayers as I am hopefully saving some money by him doing it. Then Bobs your uncle, A fully restored GTE!!
Why do I get the feeling summats gonna go wrong? It cant be as simple as all this can it?

Get your arse down to S&J near Tesco in Ilkeston as they are really cheap and really good. My GTE 16v will be going there in a couple of weeks to have a full body prep and cage welded in. Their number is 01159447980 and speak with Shaun (owner and sprayer) or Jim (his dad and the best welder in the world). They are located on the same industrial estate as Milltek and are the first set of units on your right through the gate just before the Tesco entrance.
