  • 4x4'ing gone wrong

well i went to a pay and play site at a place called frickley over near doncaster today. all did not go well
that was the 1st puddle i went near, it did not look that deep and panic soon set in as the water came flooding through the dash and then bugger me half an hour later this happened
managed to get another swivel put on and was hoping to limp it bk to the farm and then would you xmas eve itit snapped off again!! ended up having to leave it there and asking the farm management to recover it with a merlo forklift tomorrow so i can try and recover it at the weekend. it has not been a superb day

Good work! I don't think I've ever seen a swivel break like that before! Couldn't you have been normal and blown a diff?!

Nothing a few hours won't sort out though once you get it back. I've had to change both axle hub stubs that the wheel bearings go over after separately they both seized up mashing everything they touch. Answer- don't use ordinary LM grease for wheel bearings when forcing them through sandy water. Sticky grease ftw!

Good luck fixing it mate, you'll soon be out again breaking stuff.

We've got a few puddles like that round here after the rain we've just had.

thats what the bloke said on the phone when i rang up to complain as its a new swivel and only done a 1000 miles, and only about 10 offroad.

thats what size mine are, and they dont catch on the bodywork, altho mine does have a lift kit on it. the only place it catches is the lugs slightly on the radius arms at the front. as u say, there is a stop, you'll lose some of the turnin circle but nevermind.

That is indeed Bures, further to the left is where I nearly rolled coming down, suddenly kicked up the bank and I was fooked :P Do the 2 winch challenge 90's still go there? Was them that saved me...

Need to make time and go again, been a while now, Bures is the best around here, even if it does destroy brake pads within a month or 2
