i've been wanting to contribute a little from myself into this section of the site for a while now, yet with no astra it was quite difficult.

now is a different story after buying quite a clean 1.6 gl 5dr.

cost £230 which really was the selling point as if it is rubbish then i haven't lost too much.

i'm going to aim for the moment just to tidy up the car a little. today i have tried rectify some running problems. basically on occasion the car will cut out when going once the clutch is applied- basically it wouldn't hold its idle speed.

does any one have any suggestions. i have altered the mix setting, cleaned through carb and linkage and needle valve but the car still needs the fast idle screw twisted on a little. will this eventually damage the car? as it runs fine like this??

also i have removed the bumpers inorder to get a better look at the sills and arches. looking ok aside from nearside rear.

have sprayed the bumpers with primer ready for a fresh coat of black!

Nice one :) The carbs can be a bit dodgy. We bought a service kit and that sorted it out. That was on a Nova 1.3SR carb though, I think the 1.6 carb is totally different.

Looks good, can't believe that's the only rust on it!

Carb settings used to be a pain on my 1.3 (Pierburg 2E3 carb) until I sussed that it was the auto choke being a pain. In the end I worked out that if I adjusted it twice a year (winter and summer) it would always work spot on. We can have a look when you come over to look at / pick up the wheels if you like.

I found the auto choke was great when set up properly, especially since everyone else at that time was bypassing theirs and converting to manual choke!

Ian.

been working on the car most of my spare time this week.

refurbished the bumpers, sorted out the choke, fixed the reversing lights, new filter and plugs, debadged, removal of rubbish stickers, and put some gte alloys on to see how the stance changes (thanks to ian t).

anyway i think you'll agree that it looks better than the first pictures uptop.
