  • I have no luck at all with my astra!!!

As some of you know, an have proball experienced the same my astra has caused me problems yet again. Ive been through numerous amounts of engines. Last 1 was rebuilt an fitted before the oil pump went after lust over 600 hundred miles. Ive had it broken into an wheels bearings collapse on me an now ive just fitted my new engine.
Anyway today the alternator belt went which i tought wasnt too bad. Then got home an took the cambelt cover off to reveal this.

Its wedged behind the cam belt an rollers

Cut it down at the bottom then yank it out.

Re: I have no luck at all with my astra!!!

This happens to alot of cars when the alt belt snaps mate. Don't lose heart. My 306 TD broke down on me less than 3 weeks ago with the same thing, I knew what had happened straight away, slight jolt, battery light on and with the car pumping out smoke and losing power I feared the worst. The alt belt was dragged inside and made the fuel pump pulley skip a tooth, so I couldn't even limp home with it.

So if its still running then your luckier than I was! Get the alt belt out and turn your engine over by hand checking the timing belt inside and out for damage all the way round, anything even slightly suspicious and I'd replace the belt no messing. If its ok put it all back together with a new alt belt but for peace of mind I would get it on the timing marks to make sure that's all ok and then check belt tension.

      EDIT.

Oh dear! I've just read your restoration thread and I see that it did indeed stop running. Sorry to hear that. You may be lucky and have no damage and just need to time it up again, but you will be one of a minority of lucky people that's happened to! Don't think it takes alot of teeth out for an XE/LET to have piston - valve arguments.

Ive known that to happen before on a mates Cav GSi while he was running at full chat on the A303. I think that even cracked the pistons, it basically was a new engine after he'd rebuilt it.

What a total shitter mate, sorry to hear that!

Is it the exhaust or inlet?

I've possibly got a complete set if they are the same as xe ones. I'd have to check can't remember if the exhaust ones made contact or the inlets when the engine went bang.
