this should be funny :p

i say N/A, far more control in the corners (and in a straight line more often than not ;))
useable power from 2.5k to 8k in my case helps a lot
i have raced comparable turbod astras and have safely wiped the floor with them when on my terms (ie bends included lol). was impressed with a phase 3.5 mk3 tho, once we hit 100 he roared past down the straight. cant argue with that, once i decided my clutch was going to die anyway i have to say he didnt manage to pull away any on the country roads, clear advantage with more bhp at high speeds tho of course.
not driven a mk2 turbo tho, so let me know what your thoughts are :D

Im in the reverse to 16vastra, sure I've driven GTE 16v's but never a TB'd one, if your ever in Somerset and you wanna swap for 5 mins;)
It's turbo all the way for me, ok the herd of ponies under the bonnet makes things fun but with a quaiff slipper in the box cornering becomes fun rather than an out of body experience!
Besides the LET and accompanying F28 is not grossly heavier then the XE F20 combo. The biggest problem is the very high velocities you find yourself at as the beginning of the corner arrives, shave off the extra speed, accelerate progressively through the corner and you'll happily stay with annoyed Scooby drivers, then comes the straight where you can hand them their arses on a plate!

done about 10 laps around castle combe driving a phase 2 cavalier turbo. without a showdow of a doubt the LET is totally unsuited to track work. even with ths gargantuan FMIC it totally lost its zing after a couple of laps. with the increasing engine bay heat came more and more lag. if you chose a low enough gear to keep it on boost round corners you were near the limiter at the apex, if you chose a high enough gear to corner steady state and leave enough for the exit there was the wait for boost after the corner. found, more often than not, statisically slower cars on paper snapping at the heels all the way round the track.

One of each for me. Keeping my N/A MK2 Valver std and the other one as it is being rebuilt will have a turbo lump build out of random XE and LET bits we have kicking about in the workshop............probably Phase 2 it, but that is as far as that will go.

That is why some of us have nitro intercooler spray m8 mine never drops a iota of power neilD also has a lsd and a f28 and can not get near mine on bends corners etc ( might have something to do with my suspension being dropped 100mm no suspension really)
I know i am opening a hornets nest here but i raced a TB 16v two weeks ago the lad said it was 230bhp now i know i am 304bhp but i left it fot dead threw all the gears. I asked what his 1/4 was and he said 14.6 now i done 14.01 standerd ( stripped out as well mind ) so i personally would say turbo.
PLEASE NO NASTY COMMENTS I AM ONLY SAYING WHAT I THINK AND WHAT HAPPENED TO ME

if it really had 230bhp, it would be in the 13's. not a good comparison imho.

Having only ever driven a standard 16v I cant really comment on turbos or throttle bodies, but one thing I do know is that the gte is crying out for more power and 200 bhp would be plenty in my opinion.

DITTO That. If the car had a genuine 230bhp on TBs it would have to had some REALLY bad launch to record that slow a time.

A 156bhp car can pull clean 15's all day long.

John - Don't need to post comments about people being nasty, just remember it's a dedicated site to mk2 owners, so you'll get alot of comments from very interested people.

yeah, 2nd'd'd, i fancy a go of your astra, sounds good :D
14.01 is quicker than a 200bhp tb'd astra would go up the 1/4 so you should quite happily pull away

We started rallying our Astra in standard 8V GTE guise. I thought it was impressive considering the last car we competed in was a Mazda 323 with 80Hp.
It then recieved a 16V engine and carbs.Big difference. After putting a rod thru the block and destroying this engine, it now has a 230Hp QED engine on throttle bodies.Instant throttle response, great sound and loads of torque have shown up a few things that previously were OK but now need improving, brakes being the main one.
While a turbo installation would offer more Hp, i think it would dull the crispness and response that the current engine offers.

No probs steve anybody can come and see my motor my door is always open to nice peeps, just going off what the lad said to me, did have throttle boddies on it they pointed towards the car from the back of the engine, do not really know what a throttle body looks like i suppose but i have seen 45's on a 16V though onlt 175bhp i think

i dont know what my astra will do on the 1/4 mile and i dont know what power it will be (i dont really know alot) but i do know it will be very fast i think i can get it mid 13's with out the nos and high 12's very low 13's on the nos maybe a bit over confident but we can all have dreams
