Could anyone tell me the paint code or name for a 1985 8v GTE? Is it an "off the shelf" colour eg can pick it up at halfords? Someone's painted over parts of it, and i wanted to put it back to the original colour.

look at the paint code on the VIN plate (on the bonnet slam panel) usually 2 digit number and one letter.
halfords have look-up tables in the rattle can section. has the colour names in there, even if you dont buy from halfords its good for reference. -

Ah, cheers - i've been used to having it on a sticker by the suspension top mounts, but nowt on this car. Forgot about the vin plate :doh
From experience - how much does the white fade over 20 years? It's only the bonnet needs doing, but if it's going to be well away from the the colour of the rest of the car it might be better to wait for a second-hand bonnet to turn up....?Comment

There are two plates, normally the paint code is on the body coloured plate on the nearside of the slam panel.
