First of all: Greetings from Sweden  and appologize for my english :(

This story began over 4 years ago when I together with my dad disided to get a trackday car. There was no question what brand, just what model. After checking a few too rusty cars we finaly bought a Kadett E -87 that had a c20xe. This transplantation was done a few years before we bought the car (the car was sold as a 8v with c20ne and f16 gearbox)

The looked almost like this when we bought it

http://hem.bredband.net/b479927/kadutt1_inkop.jpg

And since then many modifications have been done. Specialy last winter we have done quite a lot of modifications.

Today specs are

Engine: C20xe with enem cams 280 degrees, larger exhaust manifold, 2.5" homemade sportexhaustsystem (95 dB at full throttle on racetracks wich is the swedish limit exactly), SFI replacement, open air filter with extra inlet from the front (10cm wide inlet)

Gearbox: Standard F20 with a new linkage, linkage has been raised up for faster shifting. Standard clutch

Brakes: Vectra b / saab 95 front calipers and discs 288mm, steelbraided hoses. Standard back and steelbraided hoses.

Suspension: Koni race coilovers in front. Adjustable both down and up, springs 120 N/mm eibach, Topmount in front made of aluminium and with extra displacement for extra negative camber. Back Koni race shockabsorber adjustable down and up, springs at standard place and due to the placing they are extremly hard, 240 N/mm

Interior: Rollcage welded everywhere, doorsides made of genuin carbonfiber, dashboard partly cut out, extra meters for oilpressure, oiltemp and watertemp in a extra panel made of genuin carbonfiber. Alcantara steering wheel 320mm with easy off. Floor without tarmacplates. No soundisolation whatsoever. & point harnesses Sabelt with homemade mounting in rollcage, exhaust tunnel and on the side (standard point)

Exterior: Ugly paint with stripes :yuck:, sunroof replacement in genuin carbonfibre, Bumpers have been lighted, plastic windows in the back

Wheels and Tyres: We use different wheels but Astra mk3 standard are the best since they have an ET that gives us room for wide tyres in the back and still they work in front over our large brakes there. We always use racetyres like Bridgestone RE540 or Toyo R888 and we have a so many I cant remember right now how many. We change tyres so often we have now bought machines for changing and balancing.

The does 0-60 mph in about 6 sec but the handling and the brakes are more impressive. We have a carmagasin in sweden that has a testtrack on a landing straight. Our car is faster then a M3 e36 on that track and the last test we did there was before the koni suspention you can read abut above. I have tested our car against a Vectra estate OPC and I can break later

I will add more in info when I remember what I have forgotten

Just one comment :(

Today we have welded the rear holding point for left frontwheel. After cutting the floor open there was just rust. Swedish climat is terrible for the body.

Must say that it is a weak point in the front suspention this holding point. But now it is reinforced and I hope this means better laptimes.

I also need a map for MBE 967 for a c20xe with distributor, sharper camshafts , 280 degrees or around that, and throttle bodies. Maybe someone here has one I can start the engine with and begin adjusting with.

FWD = Fast wheel drive :grinning-smiley-043

There is a swedish guy that manufacture them by himself. I have with offset 12mm which menas about one extra degree of negative camber. That is not enough with normal springs for trackday use. But with the racesetup we are using it is perfect. He also makes them with 18 mm offset. Both where a limited edition but sometimes he makes another edition.

You can find the same thing i Germany. These one are not the best. I can not adjust my camber or caster. Excentric plates are better. I bought these for about 120 quid and that is what just one costs in Germany.

I will check with this guy if he has any topmount left.

Me likes, top stuff.

Have you weighed your car and if so what KG's is it?

The car weighs about 950kg with petroltank full and race ready.

If you want your GTE:s to be light take a look at

1. Sunroof 13,8 kg (old version)
2. Soundprotection behind dashboard 6kg
3. Soundprotection on the wall between engine and dashboard 7kg
4. Tarmac plates on the floor up to 10 kg
5. Seat exchange to raceseats 20kg
6. Plastic windows 8 kg

You should remember also that the rollcage weighs about 40 kg but the safety is wanted. I have seen cars on the roof without rollcage and it is not a pretty look.

After a few weeks of businesstravels and other timewasting things I have now started this winter´s modifications.

The car has passed its anual inspection and I celebrated with champagne

We have today thrown out the electrical system. Every cable for the cars electrical system has been trown out. The Motronic system is left in the car so far. We intend to install an MBE but I dont think we have time enough for this this winter. I also like alpine skiing and unfortunatly that takes also a lot of time. But the speed in alpine skiing is almost as nice as in a car (shock)

Our intentions is to build our own electrical system with just the most necesary features installed. Who needs foglights or several speeds of the fan ? :grinning-smiley-043

We are also reinforcing the front suspention and connecting them to the rollcage.

Pictures will come later. Over and out

really like your car mate, same colour as my old stripped and caged one. I modified the standard loom to remove all the unwanted electrical stuff, and actually ended up with almost 10kg of components and wires being removed!! Its amazing how much nonsense there is, and also binning things like rear wiper, electric mirrors, heated rear screen all help as you can bin relays and wire!!

Good luck with it all!

Electrical system has been planned and there will be a few strange solutions. I am an electrical engineer and my intention is to use a few things from work :)

Pictures will come. Yesterday it got very dark outside before I was done with everything and therefor no pictures.

Yesterdays work was reinforcing front suspension turrets on left side. I have welded 50% of the turrent (just spotwelded from factory) and there is now two pipes from the turrent to the rollcage. I have alse weld the rollcage into the wall between coupé and engine.

Looking forward to next summer and trying to beat old records on all tracks :bananajump:
