let me introduce, for the US market, the pontiac lemans GSE.

and the shopping version pontiac lemans LE.

it was manufactured in brazil by daewoo using the same platform as the mk2 astra, also shared with the contemporary daewoo cielo and nexia. A stonking choice of two bastardized J series engines - 1.6 4 cylinder 8 valve, 74bhp@5600rpm, 90lbf-ft@2800rpm. i believe this to be a single point injection motor, probably the C16NZ used in our native mk2 cabriolet. the second engine used in the GSE model was a 2 litre 4 cylinder 8v, 96bhp@4800rpm, 118lbf-ft@3600rpm. scorchio !!

interior shot, mmm yum yum !

Why do Opel rename the Vaux models for the Europe market ie the Cavt GSI was a Vectra ,the Corsa a Nova iirc and the Astra Mk2 a Kadett ??

It all gets very confusing

the high vis stop light seems to be an additional feature on all the pics i have, the slot shaped one in the tailgate (maybe its a fog lamp ?). also notice the tail lamps dont have reverse lenses, and the reverse lights appear to be in the rear bumper, instead of fogs.

The shocking thing about the UK Dewoos is that they rot quicker than their Vauxhall bretherin! I've seen a newish nexia with rear arch trouble!

As for the Pontiac, well imho it looks like it collided with the ugly lamp post!:p
